The Promise of Solid Lubricants for a Sustainable Future

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Lubricants are vital for technology, saving energy and resources. The industry seeks sustainable solutions beyond fossil fuels. Solid lubricants offer extremely low friction and reduce environmental impact, especially in harsh conditions. Can these solids truly replace liquid lubricants, or are they limited to extreme applications?

Was there a (Super)nova in 1408?

open access: yesThe Astronomical Journal
The 1408 CE “guest star” recorded in Chinese historical texts presents a compelling case for identifying a historical stellar transient. While previous studies debated its nature as a meteor, comet, or nova, we reevaluate the event using original Ming ...

Dimensionally Resolved Nanostructures of an Atomically Precise and Optically Active 1D van der Waals Helix

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The ability to grow nanostructures based on inorganic helical crystals with long‐range order will enable a platform to realize physical states that arise from chirality. Herein, it is demonstrated that controlled vapor phase deposition of an atomically precise helical crystal, GaSI, into ultrathin 1D nanowires and quasi‐2D nanoribbons.
