Wagner's law in Italy: empirical evidence from 1960 to 2008 [PDF]

open access: yes
“Wagner’s Law” is the first model of public expenditure in the history of public finance. The aim of this article is to assess its empirical evidence in Italy for the period 1960-2008.

Tunable Bioresorbable Scaffolds With Marine Sulfated Polysaccharides for Small‐Caliber Vascular Grafts: A Multi‐Layered Strategy Combining Electrospinning and 4‐Axis Printing

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
A multilayered small‐caliber vascular scaffold combining electrospinning and 4‐axis printing is developed and biofunctionalized with marine sulfated polysaccharides from Holothuria tubulosa. The resulting construct exhibits enhanced hemocompatibility, tunable mechanical properties, and supports endothelial and smooth muscle cell adhesion and ...

Microscopic Insights into Magnetic Warping and Time‐Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Topological Surface States of Rare‐Earth‐Doped Bi2Te3

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Magnetic doping of the topological insulator Bi2Te3 with erbium adatoms induces out‐of‐plane magnetism and breaks time‐reversal symmetry, opening a Dirac gap and driving a Fermi surface transition from hexagonal to star‐of‐David geometry. Microscopy, spectroscopy, and magnetic dichroism reveal atomically controlled magnetic interactions that tailor the

Water Permeates and Plasticizes Amorphous Carbon Dots: Unraveling the Inner Accessibility of the Nanoparticles by Glass Transition Studies

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
The water permeability of amorphous carbon dots (CDs) is demonstrated by investigating their plasticization. Novel polyamide‐based and amorphous nanoparticles are synthesized by controlling their inner packing density. Water plasticization is evidenced by the decrease of the CDs glass transition temperature with increasing the hydration degree.

Malthusian Dynamics in a Diverging Europe: Northern Italy 1650-1881 [PDF]

open access: yes
Recent empirical research has questioned the validity of using Malthusian theory in pre-industrial England. Using real wage and vital rate data for the years 1650-1881, I provide empirical estimates for a different region { Northern Italy.

Self‐Cooling Molecular Spin Qudits

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A material made of [GdEr] molecular dimers can encode a qudit and perform as a magnetic refrigerant. Microwave resonant pulses coherently manipulate its 16 spin states, while direct demagnetization measurements cool the material and a device down to temperatures below 1 K.
