The ‘immunologic advantage’ of HIV-exposed seronegative individuals
AIDS, 2009In 1989, a curious phenomenon was described: HIVspecific T-cell responses to the viral envelope and core proteins could be detected in antibody-positive and antigen-negative sexual partners of known HIV-positive men [1]. Two other reports confirmed that initial observation on a total of six exposed seronegative (ESN) individuals, and the author raised ...

Plasma viraemia in seronegative HIV-1-infected individuals
AIDS, 1991It has been reported that the period of latency between HIV-1 infection and the production of antibodies against the virus is sometimes prolonged for greater than 6 months. However, the data supporting this are still controversial and it is not known whether these individuals are actually infectious, especially through body fluids.

Non‐HLA Lymphocytotoxic Antibodies in HIV‐Seropositive and HIV‐Seronegative Hemophiliacs
Vox Sanguinis, 1988Abstract. We tested serum samples from 11 HIV‐seropositive and 32 HIV‐seronegative Italian patients with hemophilia A or B for the presence of lymphocytotoxic antibodies (LCTAs). No patients had the acquired immune deficiency syndrome and all had received over many years heat‐untreated commercial clotting factors.

Characterization of High-Risk HIV-1 Seronegative Hemophiliacs
Clinical Immunology, 2001Mechanisms that protect most high-risk HIV-1 seronegative (HRSN) persons are not well understood. Among hemophiliacs from the Multicenter Hemophilia Cohort Study who remained HIV-1 seronegative despite a high (94%) risk for acquisition of HIV-1 infection, only 7/43 were homozygous for the protective CCR5 Delta32 polymorphism.

Seronegative secondary syphilis in an HIV-infected patient
Clinical and Experimental Dermatology, 2005Recently, increased rates of syphilis among gay men have been observed in American and European cities. It is important to establish the diagnosis because syphilis facilitates HIV transmission during the primary and secondary stages when sores are open on the skin.

Immune dysfunction in HIV-seronegative, Cryptococcus gattii meningitis
Journal of Infection, 2007The pathophysiology of meningitis caused by Cryptococcus gattii in apparently immunocompetent individuals remains unclear. We measured multiple cytokines in CSF from a HIV-seronegative, apparently immunocompetent, Thai patient with C. gattii meningitis, over the first 2 weeks of antifungal therapy. Levels of proinflammatory IFN-gamma, TNF-alpha, and IL-

Seronegative disseminated coccidioidomycosis in patients with HIV infection
AIDS, 1990Serologic testing for complement-fixing antibodies to Coccidioides immitis is commonly employed to assist in the diagnosis and management of this infection, but its usefulness in an HIV-coinfected population is unknown. In this study we reviewed all the mycologically or histologically proven cases of disseminated C.

PCR Analysis of HIV-Seronegative, Heterosexual Partners of HIV-Infected Individuals
Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes and Human Retrovirology, 1995A cohort of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-discordant couples was established to evaluate risk factors associated with heterosexual viral transmission. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) was utilized to document the HIV-uninfected status among members of discordant heterosexual couples and to rule out immunosilent infection. HIV DNA PCR specific for a

Abnormal immune parameters in HIV‐seronegative haemophilic patients
Haemophilia, 1996Summary. In HIV‐seronegative haemophiliac patients abnormal immune parameters have been demonstrated. In this review data on these abnormalities, their aetiology and clinical consequences are summarized and discussed. The data reviewed show abnormalities at different levels of the adaptive immune system.

Cutaneous Histoplasmosis in HIV Seronegative Patients: A Clinicopathological Analysis
Dermatology, 2021Background: Diagnosis of extrapulmonary histoplasmosis in HIV seronegative and immunocompetent patients is often challenging, so a high index of suspicion is required. Cutaneous manifestation of infection shows a wide spectrum of lesions including erythematous plaques; maculopapules; crusted, verrucous, or ...
