HMI: First results

open access: yes, 2010
The Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) has just started producing data that will help determine what the sources and mechanisms of variability in the Sun's interior are. The instrument measures the Doppler shift and the polarization of the Fe I 6173 A line, on the entire solar disk at a relatively-high cadence, in order to study the oscillations ...

Enhancing SDO/HMI images using deep learning

open access: yes, 2018
The Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) provides continuum images and magnetograms with a cadence better than one per minute. It has been continuously observing the Sun 24 hours a day for the past 7 years.

Emulsifying properties of hemp proteins: Effect of isolation technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
peer-reviewedHemp protein was isolated from hemp seed meal using two different isolation procedures: alkali extraction/isoelectric precipitation (HPI) and micellization (HMI). The ability of these proteins to form and stabilize 10% (w/w) sunflower oil-in-

Molecular Inks for the Development of Complex 3D In‐Mold Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
Molecular inks (MINKs) enable the fabrication of thermoformed 3D circuits by decoupling the forming and metallization steps. Following thermoforming, intense pulsed‑light or thermal processing converts the patterned MINKs into complex 3D conductive tracks with improved stretchability and electrical performance, advancing low‑cost, high‑performance in ...

Using Realistic MHD Simulations for Modeling and Interpretation of Quiet-Sun Observations with the Solar Dynamics Observatory Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The solar atmosphere is extremely dynamic, and many important phenomena develop on small scales that are unresolved in observations with the Helioseismic and Magnetic Imager (HMI) instrument on the Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO).

What counts as numeracy? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
The purpose of the study was to infer the Scottish HMI view of what is meant by Numeracy given the concerns that primary children's achievements in Numeracy reflect a lack of flexibility in handling number and an overemphasis on procedures at the expense

Cross‐Phase Modulation via Time‐Varying Epsilon‐Near‐Zero Metasurfaces

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Time‐varying epsilon‐near‐zero metasurfaces are shown to enable cross‐phase modulation beyond conventional ENZ excitation. By engineering dual absorption bands and exploiting oblique ultrafast pumping, large and broadband frequency translations are achieved at low pump energies.
