Experimental behaviour of composite beams subjected to a hogging moment

Steel & Composite structures, 2012
The present work addresses the rotational capacity of steel-concrete composite beams, which is a key issue for the seismic design of composite frames. Several experimental tests from the literature are summarised, and the effects of various parameters on the available plastic rotation are discussed.

Charts for Estimating Nonlinear Hogging and Sagging Bending Moments

Journal of Ship Research, 1995
Abstract This paper presents charts for preliminary estimates of the nonlinearities associated with wave bending moments acting on a ship moving in a stationary sea. Deviation of the actual hull shape above the waterline from "vertical wall" is characterized by a flare coefficient.

Investigation on partially concrete encased composite beams under hogging moment

Advances in Structural Engineering, 2016
In order to investigate the mechanical behavior of the partially concrete encased composite beam under hogging moment, static loading tests were conducted on one conventional composite beam and three partially concrete encased composite beams. The results show that partially concrete encased composite beams have higher stiffness and flexural capacity ...

Application of SFRC in steel–concrete composite beams subjected to hogging moment

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2014
Abstract This paper describes the effects of SFRC on improving the mechanical performance of composite steel and concrete beams subjected to hogging moment. Four specimens with different concrete slabs and different shear connectors were examined experimentally in this study.

Mechanical Performance of Steel-Concrete Composite Beams Subjected to a Hogging Moment

Journal of Structural Engineering, 2014
Limited experimental results have been reported in the literature on the fatigue and ultimate static loading behavior of composite beams subjected to negative bending moment. This paper examines experimentally the behavior of composite steel-concrete beams.

Moment Hinge Model for Composite Beam to Column Connections under Sagging and Hogging Moments

Concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns are increasingly utilized in high-rise construction, where steel beams are typically joined via fully bolted splice connections to eliminate on-site welding. While the concrete slab facilitates efficient composite action, the presence of bolt holes reduces the beam's effective cross-sectional area ...

An advanced mechanical model for composite connections under hogging/sagging moments

Journal of Constructional Steel Research, 2012
Abstract The behaviour of composite connections has been widely investigated in last years within the international scientific community following the introduction in Eurocode 4 of the extension to composite connections of the Component Method, already suggested by Eurocode 3 for bare steel connections.

Critical Inter-Load Spacing for Hogging Moments in Three-Span Bridges

Structures, 2018
Abstract This article outlines the determination of the inter-load spacing between two equal point loads traversing a continuous three-span beam, such that the bending moment at the first interior support is a maximum. Different side-span ratios are considered. Exact closed-form expressions are derived, as well as a simple close approximation, making
