Efficiency, Shadow Pricing and Regime Switching in Multi‐Ware Technologies: Evidence From Regulated Livestock Farms

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT We develop a framework for regulated production systems where output generation and pollution abatement impose competing technological demands. Using a multi‐ware technology, we model the production set as the intersection of two input requirement frontiers, one for production and one for abatement, each reflecting distinct trade‐offs.

The influence of vertical shear on the hogging bending moment resistance of ComFlor composite slabs

open access: yesProceedings 12th international conference on Advances in Steel-Concrete Composite Structures - ASCCS 2018, 2018
Composite slabs are designed to transfer loads in one direction e.g. the longitudinal direction of the ribs. To reduce the deflection, it is useful to realise a continuous slab with at least one intermediate support. At the intermediate support in addition to a hogging bending moment a rather large vertical shear force will act. For the verification of

The Impact of Vertical Fiscal Imbalance on Gambling Policies in New South Wales, Australia: The Rise of the Poker Machine

open access: yesAustralian Journal of Politics &History, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT This study traces how gambling in Australia changed from a simple form of leisure, enjoyed by all social classes in colonial times, to a billion‐dollar industry driven by political and economic imperatives. Using a case study, it links vertical fiscal imbalance (VFI), caused by changes to the state‐federal taxation structure, to the ...

Comparative analysis among deterministic and stochastic collision damage models for oil tanker and bulk carrier reliability

open access: yesInternational Journal of Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering, 2018
The incidence of collision damage models on oil tanker and bulk carrier reliability is investigated considering the IACS deterministic model against GOALDS/IMO database statistics for collision events, substantiating the probabilistic model.

Management coverage and spatial gaps for carnivore habitat across Mexico

open access: yesConservation Science and Practice, EarlyView.
We evaluated the spatial overlap between four land management types and the habitat of 28 terrestrial carnivores in Mexico. Our findings reveal that non‐designated land management types like Indigenous Territories may provide significant habitat coverage, and that significant coverage gaps for carnivores remain.

Local Buckling Influence on the Moment Redistribution Coefficient for Composite Continuous Beams of Bridges

open access: yesThe Baltic Journal of Road and Bridge Engineering, 2010
The present paper is concerned with the elastic design optimisation of continuous composite beams. This optimisation is based on the analysis of the beam in the inelastic range including the concrete creep and shrinkage, the tension stiffening and ...

The Architecture of Consolidation: Nests of Corporate Control in the Agrochemical Network

open access: yesJournal of Agrarian Change, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Research on agricultural consolidation tends to equate corporate control with the dominance of a few large firms. We take an alternative approach that examines control through the explosive growth of legally distinct firms that fragment accountability. Using a new global dataset of 6982 entities linked to BASF, Bayer, Corteva, Dow, DuPont, FMC,

Research on Application of Uplift-Restricted Slip-Permitted (URSP) Connectors in Steel-Concrete Composite Frames

open access: yesApplied Sciences, 2019
Tensile stresses and cracks in concrete slabs induced by a hogging moment have always been a disadvantage of steel-concrete composite structures and key issue of concern in the design of such structures. To reduce the tensile stress and control the crack
