Proximity to bait and social interactions influence individual wild pig (Sus scrofa) visitation at bait sites

open access: yesThe Journal of Wildlife Management, EarlyView.
Individual wild pig bait site visitation and time to initial detection is primarily influenced by space use (i.e., proximity to bait) and whether wild pigs from other social groups visited before. Specifically, females are less likely to visit a bait site if an adult male visits a site before them.

Mechanical Model of Steel-concrete Composite Joint under Sagging Bending Moment

open access: yesSelected Scientific Papers: Journal of Civil Engineering, 2012
In buildings with steel-concrete composite floors, joints are designed to transmit mainly hogging bending moment. In case of the large horizontal loads due to wind, earthquake or accidental events, sagging bending moments in a joint can also occur ...

On the behaviour of continuous RC slab strips flexurally strengthened by the NSM technique [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
This work explores the influence of the amount of CFRP in terms of load carrying capacity, ductility and moment redistribution capacity of continuous RC slab strips.

Patterns of wild meat and other protein consumption in the periphery of Salonga National Park, Democratic Republic of the Congo

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract In Central Africa, human activities are severely impacting terrestrial and aquatic wildlife, threatening the food security of millions of people. Accordingly, sustainable use of wildlife is crucial for the nutrition and livelihoods of many rural communities in the region.

Assessment of the effectiveness of NSM-CFRP flexural strengthening configuration for continuous RC slabs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
The experimental programs for the flexural strengthening of reinforced concrete (RC) structures using the Near Surface Mounted (NSM) technique with Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) laminates were, in general, conducted with simply supported beams ...

The magnitude and economic replacement value of wild meat obtained from ‘recreational’ big game hunting in the United States

open access: yesPeople and Nature, EarlyView.
Abstract Meat production has notable benefits for food security, nutrition and various production economies, but has elicited substantial negative environmental impacts. Recreational hunting provides an alternative to agricultural meat production for over 24 million hunters worldwide.

Flexural Performance of Steel–GFRP Strips–UHPC Composite Beam in Negative Moment Region

open access: yesBuildings
This study aims to clarify the longitudinal flexural cracking characteristics in hogging moment regions and propose a practical calculation method for the cracking load and ultimate bearing capacity for a steel–GFRP strips–UHPC composite deck structure ...
