Use of species’ responses to cryptic anthropogenic disturbances for monitoring biodiversity outcomes in tropical forests

open access: yesConservation Biology, EarlyView.
Abstract Measuring area‐based conservation outcomes in tropical forests is challenging due to cryptic human disturbances (e.g., hunting). As a result, comparative studies of management strategies providing quantitative outcomes remain scarce, especially in the Neotropics.

Modelling semi-rigid composite joints with precast hollowcore slabs in hogging moment region

open access: yesJournal of Constructional Steel Research, 2008
In this paper, using the general purpose software ABAQUS, a three dimensional (3-D) finite element model was built to simulate semi-rigid composite connection with precast hollowcore slabs. 3D continuum elements are used for all parts of the composite connections and the contact conditions between all the components are explicitly modelled.

1165. Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench

open access: yesCurtis's Botanical Magazine, EarlyView.
Summary Echinacea purpurea (L.) Moench (Compositae: Heliantheae: Zinniinae) is described and illustrated with a colour plate and black and white text figure. An introduction to the history of the appearance of this species in the Magazine appears in brief, together with comments on the treatment of the genus, and the available generic revisions.

Ductility and moment redistribution capacity of two-span RC beams

open access: yesИнженерно-строительный журнал, 2019
The particular weaknesses of concrete buildings are brittle fracture and lack of material ductility, so using steel reinforcements and discrete fibers are an attempt to overcome this weakness.

Scale‐robust fibre orientation analysis of hair using two‐dimensional Fourier transform

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cosmetic Science, EarlyView.
We present a simple and robust method to quantify hair fibre orientation using 2D‐DFT. It works with standard images and extracts directional features at multiple scales. This enables objective evaluation of cosmetic treatments and product effects. Abstract Objective To address the current lack of standardized tools for evaluating hair appearance in ...

An innovative steel-concrete joint for integral abutment bridges

open access: yesJournal of Traffic and Transportation Engineering (English ed. Online), 2015
Integral abutment bridges are becoming rather common, due to the durability problems of bearings and expansion joints. At the same time, among short- and medium-span bridges, multi-beam steel-concrete composite deck with hot-rolled girder is an ...

The behaviour of composite steel beams with precast hollowcore slabs in hogging moment regions

open access: yes, 2005
No The chapter discusses the behavior of composite steel beams with precast hollow core slabs in hogging moment regions. Full-scale composite beams to column semi-rigid connections with precast hollow core slabs are tested in the chapter. The chapter presents a steelwork connection consists of a flush end plate bolted to column flanges.
