Topology‐Dependent Coke Formation in the Catalytic Pyrolysis of Phenol Over HFAU and HZSM‐5 Zeolites

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
The coke formation and speciation during the catalytic pyrolysis of lignin over different zeolite topologies were studied with a combination of operando EPR spectroscopy and ex situ pulsed techniques aided with DFT calculations. Operando EPR data showed that the coke formation in HFAU is fast compared to HZSM‐5.

Rethinking the Disappearance of Microblade Technology in the Terminal Pleistocene of Hokkaido, Northern Japan: Looking at Archaeological and Palaeoenvironmental Evidence

open access: yesQuaternary, 2020
Archaeological research, for several decades, has shown that various microblade technologies using obsidian and hard shale appeared and developed from the Last Glacial Maximum to the terminal Pleistocene (Bølling–Allerød–Younger Dryas) in Hokkaido ...

Highly‐Emissive Organic Photovoltaics Approaching Theoretical Limit Voltage and Enabling Multifunctional Energy‐Harvesting Displays

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
A highly‐emissive organic photovoltaic employs donor–acceptor pairs with alternately localized frontier molecular orbitals, preserving high triplet energies and small reorganization energies to suppress non‐radiative recombination. As a result, it exhibits a high open‐circuit voltage approaching the Shockley–Queisser limit and a high ...

Tandem Reactivity of Metal−Carbon and Carbon−Silicon Bonds in Mononuclear α‐Silyl Organolithium or Organosodium Complexes Towards CO, CO2 and Heteroallenes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, EarlyView.
Anionic α‐silyl alkyl is one of the most used organometallic building blocks and funtional groups. Traditionally, the C─Si bond in these complexes is considered as inert. In this work, we report a series of reactions between mononuclear organo‐lithium and ‐sodium complexes with CO, CO2, or heteroallenes.

Chameleonic Color‐Variable Microbead Emitters for Multilevel Spectroscopic Encryption from Visible to Infrared Wavelengths

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
Whispering‐gallery‐mode microresonators with sharp resonant peaks enable photonic barcoding. Similar to a chameleon, a rare‐earth‐free microcavity with π‐conjugated PAHs enables visibleto‐near infrared color generation from a single microbead. The unique resonat emission (spectral barcode) can be dynamically transformed via excitation wavelength change,

Possible Shifts in the Genetic Diversity of Red-crowned Cranes (Grus japonensis) in Hokkaido, Japan: Indications of Continental Gene Flow

open access: yesAnimals
Red-crowned cranes (Grus japonensis) consist of two distinct groups: the continental population and the island population. The island population, localized in Hokkaido, Japan, exhibits very low genetic diversity due to its rapid recovery from the brink ...

Temporal Variation and Statistical Assessment of the b Value off the Pacific Coast of Tokachi, Hokkaido, Japan

open access: yesEntropy, 2019
The Gutenberg-Richter Law describes the frequency-magnitude distribution of earthquakes. A number of studies have shown that the slope (b value) of the relationship between frequency and magnitude decreased before large earthquakes.

Genetic population structure of invasive raccoons (Procyon lotor) in Hokkaido, Japan: Unique phenomenon caused by pet escape or abandonment

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2020
Phylogeographic studies can resolve relationships between genetic population structure of organisms and geographical distributions. Raccoons have become feral in Japan, and in Hokkaido island, they have been rapidly increasing in number and spreading ...
