Paternal phylogeographic structure of the brown bear (Ursus arctos) in northeastern Asia and the effect of male-mediated gene flow to insular populations

open access: yesZoological Letters, 2017
Background Sex-biased dispersal is widespread among mammals, including the brown bear (Ursus arctos). Previous phylogeographic studies of the brown bear based on maternally inherited mitochondrial DNA have shown intraspecific genetic structuring around ...

Simplified numerical form of universal finite type invariant of Gauss words

open access: yes, 2012
In the present paper, we study the finite type invariants of Gauss words. In the Polyak algebra techniques, we reduce the determination of the group structure to transformation of a matrix into its Smith normal form and we give the simplified form of a ...

Full‐scale Shaking Table Tests on a 10‐story Steel Moment‐resisting Frame Building with Buckling‐restrained Braces

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering &Structural Dynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In February 2023, a comprehensive series of shaking table tests were conducted at the E‐Defense facility, the world's largest three‐dimensional earthquake simulator, on a full‐scale 10‐story steel moment‐resisting frame supplemented with BRBs.

Peptide RL‐QN15 Regulates Functions of Epidermal Stem Cells to Accelerate Skin Wound Regeneration via the FZD8/β‐Catenin Axis

open access: yesExploration, EarlyView.
Amphibian‐derived peptide RL‐QN15 activates the Wnt/β‐catenin signaling pathway by interacting with the FZD8 membrane receptor, promoting epidermal stem cells proliferation, migration, stemness, and EMT processes, thus promoting skin wound healing.

Tracking haplotype for QTLs associated with Fusarium head blight resistance in Japanese wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) lineage

open access: yesAgriculture & Food Security, 2018
Background Fusarium head blight (FHB) resistance in wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) has been enhanced by combining resistant alleles with transgressive segregation. In Japan, intensive FHB resistance breeding was initiated in 1970s in Kyushu and in 1990s in

Multifunctional Properties of Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) Essential Oil: Antimicrobial, Antibiofilm, and Insecticidal Effects

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
Unveiling the potential of Wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens) essential oil. ABSTRACT This study investigated the antimicrobial, antibiofilm, and insecticidal properties of wintergreen (Gaultheria procumbens L.) essential oil (GPEO). The EO was chemically characterized by GC–MS, confirming methyl salicylate as the predominant compound (99.3%).

Potential of Sea Urchin Mesocentrotus nudus as a Target Catch Species in the Pacific Ocean off Eastern Hokkaido, Japan

open access: yesAnimals
Scientific reports on the distribution of Mesocentrotus nudus in Hokkaido are limited from Cape Soya to Cape Erimo along the coast of the Sea of Japan; however, fishery statistics show that its distribution has extended to the Sea of Okhotsk and Pacific ...

Molecular Palaeontology Prospects From Exceptionally Preserved Eocene Brackish‐Water Bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis (Venerida: Corbiculidae) From Hokkaido, Japan

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
This study reports the exceptional preservation of the Eocene freshwater bivalve Batissa sitakaraensis from Hokkaido, Japan. Multimodal analyses reveal that both the aragonitic shell mineralogy and the delicate organic periostracum retain their original structural and chemical characteristics after millions of years.

Sphingosine‐1‐Phosphate Receptor 1 Promotes Ovarian Cancer Tumorsphere Proliferation and Metastasis

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
In high‐grade serous ovarian cancer, malignant ascites frequently arise as ovarian cancer cells shed from the primary tumor and aggregate into tumorspheres, severely limiting treatment success. To date, little is known about the mechanisms governing tumorsphere endurance and metastasis within the ascites once formed.
