A robust hole-filling algorithm for triangular mesh
Visual Computer, 2007Summary form only given. This paper presents a novel hole-filling algorithm that can fill arbitrary holes in triangular mesh models. First, the advancing front mesh technique is used to cover the hole with newly created triangles. Next, the desirable normals of the new triangles are approximated using our desirable normal computing schemes.

Even with most popular 3D scanning devices like Microsoft Kinect and Time of Flight (ToF) cameras, occlusions during the scanning process result in occurrence of missing regions or holes in 3D data.

Complex hole-filling algorithm for 3D models
Proceedings of the Computer Graphics International Conference, 2017In this paper, we propose a new and simple method for filling complex holes in surfaces. To fill a hole, locally uniform points are added to the hole by creating contour curves inside the boundary edges of the hole. A set of contour curves is created by shortening the flow of the boundary edges of the hole.
