Fluorescence Anisotropy Sensor Comprising a Dual Hollow-Core Antiresonant Fiber Polarization Beam Splitter

open access: yesSensors, 2020
Fluorescence anisotropy imaging and sensing is a widely recognized method for studying molecular orientation and mobility. However, introducing this technique to in vivo systems is a challenging task, especially when one considers multiphoton excitation ...

Coherent resonant interactions and slow light with molecules confined in photonic band-gap fibers

open access: yes, 2004
We investigate resonant nonlinear optical interactions and demonstrate induced transparency in acetylene molecules in a hollow-core photonic band-gap fiber at 1.5$\mu$m.

Dual-core antiresonant hollow core fibers

open access: yesOptics Express, 2016
In this work, dual-core antiresonant hollow core fibers (AR-HCFs) are numerically demonstrated, based on our knowledge, for the first time. Two fiber structures are proposed. One is a composite of two single-core nested nodeless AR-HCFs, exhibiting low confinement loss and a circular mode profile in each core.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Microstructured optical fibers for quantum applications: Perspective

open access: yesAPL Quantum
Recent progress in the development and applications of microstructured optical fibers for quantum technologies is summarized. The optical nonlinearity of solid-core and gas-filled hollow-core fibers provides a valuable medium for the generation of ...

Artificial intelligence designer for optical Fibers: Inverse design of a Hollow-Core Anti-Resonant fiber based on a tandem neural network

open access: yesResults in Physics, 2023
In this work, artificial intelligence (AI) is trained to “study” optical fibers as an AI optical fiber scientist. The dataset is constructed on the structural parameters and confinement loss of hollow-core anti-resonant fibers and is divided into ...

Hollow core photonic crystal fiber based viscometer with Raman spectroscopy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The velocity of a liquid flowing through the core of a hollow core photonic crystal fiber (driven by capillary forces) is used for the determination of a liquid's viscosity, using volumes of less than 10 nl.

Harnessing Fungal Biowelding for Constructing Mycelium‐Engineered Materials

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Mycelium‐bound composites (MBCs) offer low‐carbon alternatives for construction, yet interfacial bonding remains a critical challenge. This review examines fungal biowelding as a biocompatible adhesive, elucidating mycelium‐mediated interfacial mechanisms and their role in material assembly. Strategies to optimize biowelding are discussed, highlighting
