This paper investigates the thermal properties of a new type of hollow sphere structures. For this new type, the sphere shell is perforated by several holes in order to open the inner sphere volume and surface. The effective thermal conductivity of perforated sphere structures in a primitive cubic arrangement is numerically evaluated for different hole

Composite Construction in Steel and Concrete IV, 2002
Slim floor composite slabs are made of asymmetric steel beams with a wide lower flange supporting composite decks with profiled steel sheets or prefabricated concrete elements (mainly precast hollow core elements). The gap between steel beam and hollow core elements is filled with concrete.

Abstract Global and local imperfections are required to capture accurate buckling loads and overall structural behaviour of axially loaded structural steel hollow sections in finite element (FE) models. In this paper, three methods of geometrical imperfections are considered for square and rectangular structural steel hollow sections: (i) creating ...

A procedure to obtain stiffness matrices for hollow circular cylinders is presented using finite element method. During the formation of the stiffness matrices a parallel data structure storage scheme is applied. After the completion of the stiffness matrix, Crout's method is employed to obtain the solution of a set of linear simultaneous equations ...
