Holography and hydrodynamics: diffusion on stretched horizons [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2003
We show that long-time, long-distance fluctuations of plane-symmetric horizons exhibit universal hydrodynamic behavior. By considering classical fluctuations around black-brane backgrounds, we find both diffusive and shear modes. The diffusion constant and the shear viscosity are given by simple formulas, in terms of metric components.

Magnetophonons & type-B Goldstones from hydrodynamics to holography [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2020
Abstract We perform a detailed analysis of a large class of effective holographic models with broken translations at finite charge density and magnetic field. We exhaustively discuss the dispersion relations of the hydrodynamic modes at zero magnetic field and successfully match them to the predictions from charged hydrodynamics ...

Entropy currents from holography in hydrodynamics with charge [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2013
Abstract The holographic interpretation of the hydrodynamic entropy current is developed for the case of hydrodynamics with a conserved charge. This is carried out within a framework developed in earlier work [1, 2], which showed how to associate entropy currents with horizons in the dual geometry.

Holography and hydrodynamics in small systems

Nuclear Physics A, 2016
Abstract Using holographic duality, we present results for the off-center collision of Gaussian wave packets in strongly coupled N = 4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory. The wave packets are thin along the collision axis and superficially at least resemble Lorentz contracted colliding protons.

Relativistic hydrodynamics under rotation: Prospects and limitations from a holographic perspective

open access: yesProgress in Particle and Nuclear Physics
The AdS/CFT correspondence, or holography, has provided numerous important insights into the behavior of strongly-coupled many-body systems. Crucially, it has provided a testing ground for the construction of new effective field theories, especially ...

Transport and Hydrodynamics in Holography, Strange Metals and Graphene

2017
This dissertation provides an overview of what gauge-gravity duality, often called holography, has taught us about quantum condensed matter physics, with particular emphasis on the problem of thermoelectric transport. A comprehensive theory of transport in weakly disordered metals is subsequently developed using a variety of techniques, all of which ...
