Relativistic hydrodynamic attractors with broken symmetries: non-conformal and non-homogeneous

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2017
Standard textbooks will state that hydrodynamics requires near-equilibrium to be applicable. Recently, however, out-of-equilibrium attractor solutions for hydrodynamics have been found in kinetic theory and holography in systems with a high degree of ...

HoToPy: a toolbox for X-ray holo-tomography in Python. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Synchrotron Radiat
We present HoToPy, a toolbox for X‐ray holo‐tomography in Python. It offers state‐of‐the‐art phase retrieval methods for synchrotron and laboratory sources as well as tomographic reconstruction and alignment methods. We present a Python toolbox for holographic and tomographic X‐ray imaging. It comprises a collection of phase retrieval algorithms for the

On the generalized Snell-Descartes laws, shock waves, water wakes, and Cherenkov radiation. [PDF]

open access: yesNanophotonics
Abstract The modification of light's trajectory after refracting through a boundary separating two media is a ubiquitous phenomenon in nature. The laws governing such refraction/reflection, known today as the Snell–Descartes laws of reflection and refraction, were established over four centuries ago and have since become foundational to the field of ...

Indirect detector for ultra-high-speed X-ray micro-imaging with increased sensitivity to near-ultraviolet scintillator emission. [PDF]

open access: yesJ Synchrotron Radiat
This study introduces an optimized indirect X‐ray microscope capable of achieving micrometre pixel size and megahertz acquisition speed, leveraging enhanced sensitivity in the near‐ultraviolet spectrum and single‐crystal fast‐decay scintillators. This development enables high‐resolution imaging for dynamic phenomena, exemplified by experiments with ...

Hydrodynamics, spin currents and torsion

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
We construct the canonical constitutive relations for a fluid description of a system with a spin current, valid in an arbitrary number of dimensions in the absence of parity breaking or time reversal breaking terms. Our study encompasses the hydrostatic

Holography and hydrodynamics: diffusion on stretched horizons [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2003
We show that long-time, long-distance fluctuations of plane-symmetric horizons exhibit universal hydrodynamic behavior. By considering classical fluctuations around black-brane backgrounds, we find both diffusive and shear modes. The diffusion constant and the shear viscosity are given by simple formulas, in terms of metric components.

Holography and magnetohydrodynamics with dynamical gauge fields

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
Within the framework of holography, the Einstein-Maxwell action with Dirichlet boundary conditions corresponds to a dual conformal field theory in presence of an external gauge field.

Non-dissipative electrically driven fluids

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2023
Existing hydrodynamic models of charged fluids consider any external electric field acting on the fluid as either first order in the hydrodynamic derivative expansion and completely arbitrary or zeroth order but constrained by the fluid’s chemical ...

Resurgence and hydrodynamic attractors in Gauss-Bonnet holography [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of High Energy Physics, 2018
Abstract We study the convergence of the hydrodynamic series in the gravity dual of Gauss-Bonnet gravity in five dimensions with negative cosmological constant via holography. By imposing boost invariance symmetry, we find a solution to the Gauss-Bonnet equation of motion in inverse powers of the proper time, from which we can ...
