The Usefulness of Holotranscobalamin in Predicting Vitamin B12 Status in Different Clinical Settings
Current Drug Metabolism, 2005Serum concentrations of homocysteine (Hcy) and methylmalonic acid (MMA) become increased in B12-deficient subjects and are therefore, considered specific markers of B12 deficiency. Serum level of holotranscobalamin (holoTC) becomes decreased before the development of the metabolic dysfunction.

Low holotranscobalamin and cobalamins predict incident fractures in elderly men: the MrOS Sweden
Osteoporosis International, 2013In a population-based study on cobalamin status and incident fractures in elderly men (n = 790) with an average follow-up of 5.9 years, we found that low levels of metabolically active and total cobalamins predict incident fractures, independently of body mass index (BMI), bone mineral density (BMD), plasma total homocysteine (tHcy), and cystatin C ...

Holotranscobalamin--a first choice assay for diagnosing early vitamin B deficiency?
Journal of internal medicine, 2005The performance of holotranscobalamin (holoTC) was compared with the other markers of vitamin B12 deficiency, and the influence of age, renal function, and thyroid status was examined. We examined 937 individuals not treated with vitamin B12 but in whom vitamin B12 deficiency was suspected because of a plasma methylmalonic acid (MMA) above 0.28 micromol

Few studies have investigated the role of vitamin B12 metabolism in vitiligo. We tested the hypothesis that vitamin B12 and folate metabolism might have an influence on the pathogenesis of vitiligo. Full blood count and levels of folic acid, vitamin B12, homocysteine and holotranscobalamine were examined for 69 patients with vitiligo and 52 controls ...

Holotranscobalamin as an indicator of vitamin B12 deficiency in gastrectomized patients.
Annals of clinical and laboratory science, 2013Transcobalamin-bound vitamin B(12), or holotranscobalamin (HoloTC), a biologically active form, is believed to be a sensitive marker of vitamin B(12) deficiency. We investigated the prevalence of vitamin B(12) deficiency in gastrectomized patients using HoloTC and total vitamin B(12) to determine the diagnostic utility of HoloTC.
