Accounting for animal health in efficiency analysis: An application to Swedish dairy farms

open access: yesAmerican Journal of Agricultural Economics, EarlyView.
Abstract Poor animal health is a central concern in modern livestock production. Despite the necessity to incorporate animal health in efficiency analysis, the theoretical and empirical developments are limited on this subject. This article appropriately characterizes the axiomatic properties of animal health within a production framework.

Body condition score and live-weight effects on milk production in Irish Holstein-Friesian dairy cows

open access: yes, 2007
peer-reviewedThe objective of the present study was to quantify the relationships among body condition score (BCS; scale 1 to 5), live weight (WT) and milk production in Irish Holstein-Friesian spring calving dairy cows.

Localization in the Disordered Holstein Model [PDF]

open access: yesCommunications in Mathematical Physics, 2018
The Holstein model describes the motion of a tight-binding tracer particle interacting with a field of quantum harmonic oscillators. We consider this model with an on-site random potential. Provided the hopping amplitude for the particle is small, we prove localization for matrix elements of the resolvent, in particle position and in the field Fock ...

Overcrowded Alkene Photo‐Redox‐Switches Based on Quinolinium/Carbene Building Blocks

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, EarlyView.
A modular synthesis of a new class of photo‐ and redox‐switches is described based on the combination of quinolinium salts and carbenes. Photochemical switching allows to selectively switch between folded E/Z isomers, while electrochemical switching allows to change between neutral, radical cation and dicationic oxidation states, which are all isolable

Searching of Pregnancy Rate in Repeat Breeder Cows by Embryo Transfer Practices

open access: yesJournal of Agricultural Sciences, 2021
The aim of this study is to compare the pregnancy rates by applying embryo transfer to the cows which are not pregnant and should be removed from herd as repeat breeder. In this study, 87 randomlyselected Holstein cows utilized.

Inter‐microscope comparability of dental microwear texture data obtained from different optical profilometers: Part I Reproducibility of diet inference using different instruments

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Dental microwear texture analysis (DMTA) has become a well‐established method for dietary inference and reconstruction in both extant and extinct mammals and other tetrapods. As the volume of available data continues to grow, researchers could benefit from combining published data from various studies to perform meta‐analyses.

Are there morpho‐acoustic patterns of adaptation in nonhuman primate ears? Testing the role of ecology and habitat in shaping ear morphology and function

open access: yesThe Anatomical Record, EarlyView.
Abstract Analysis of the variation in the bony structures of the inner and middle ear provides critical insights into functional morphology, as well as adaptive morphology across primates. In this study, we investigated whether ear morphology patterns are related to the ecological characteristics of species and their habitats to test two acoustic ...

Effects of β- and κ-casein, and β-lactoglobulin single and composite genotypes on milk composition and milk coagulation properties of Italian Holsteins assessed by FT-MIR

open access: yesItalian Journal of Animal Science, 2021
The present study aimed to investigate the effect of β- and κ- casein, and β-lactoglobulin genotypes on milk composition and milk coagulation properties predicted using Fourier-transform mid-infrared spectroscopy (FT-MIR).

Insemination factors affecting the conception rate in seasonal calving Holstein-Friesian cows

open access: yes, 2003
peer-reviewedDifferences in conception rate to first service between artificial inseminations (AI) carried out by commercial AI operators (CAI) or do-it-yourself operators (DIY), between natural service (NAT) and AI, between different AI sires, and ...
