An Update on Advancement in Genomics Resources for Spiny Lobster Aquaculture Development

open access: yesReviews in Aquaculture, Volume 18, Issue 4, September 2026.
ABSTRACT The rapid advancement of high‐throughput sequencing technologies has transformed aquaculture genomics, enabling unprecedented insights into the biology and improvement of non‐model aquatic species. Among crustaceans, lobsters represent one of the most commercially valuable yet genomically underexplored taxa. This review synthesises the current

Neural Activation of the Heart of the Lobster Homarus Americanus [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Biology, 1971
ABSTRACT Glass microelectrodes were used to record intracellular activity from the striated muscle fibres of the heart of the lobster Homarus americanus. In spontaneously beating hearts bursts of impulses are generated at regular intervals by neurones in the cardiac ganglion.

American lobster (Homarus americanus) hepatopancreas transcriptome reveals the significance of chitin-related genes during impoundment shell disease

open access: yesFACETS
American lobsters (Homarus americanus) stored in open tidal pounds can develop impoundment shell disease (ISD), resulting in decreased marketability of the lobsters on the live market.

Isometric training at longer muscle–tendon complex lengths: A potential countermeasure to impaired neuro‐muscle–tendon function during space travel

open access: yesExperimental Physiology, Volume 111, Issue 9, Page 4041-4053, 1 September 2026.
Abstract Manned space exploration to distant destinations, including Mars, continues to be an aspiration of humankind. Space travel does, however, present many challenges to the body, amongst which adaptation to microgravity is perhaps the largest. For instance, both short and long manned spaceflight missions have shown substantial deleterious effects ...

Embryos of Homarus americanus are Protected by Epibiotic Bacteria

open access: yesThe Biological Bulletin, 1992
Embryos of the American lobster, Homarus americanus, are remarkably resistant to infection by the fungus Lagenidium callinectes, a pathogen of many crustaceans. The surfaces of healthy lobster embryos are covered almost exclusively by a single, Gram-negative bacterium, which grows in a dense mosaic pattern.

Baseline composition, quantity, and condition of bycatch in the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence spring and summer American lobster fisheries

open access: yesFACETS, 2023
The impact of the southern Gulf of St. Lawrence American lobster (Homarus americanus) fishery on species bycatch is currently unknown. The composition of the incidental catch, both nonharvestable lobster (by fisheries regulations) and nonlobster species,

Putatively Adaptive and Genome‐Wide Genetic Variation Often Rank Populations as Similarly Distinctive

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 15, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Identifying which populations within species to prioritize to maintain genetic diversity is challenging. Due to its direct connection to current patterns of adaptation and presumed connection to adaptive capacity, some researchers advocate prioritizing adaptive variation.

Lobster Position Estimation Using YOLOv7 for Potential Guidance of FANUC Robotic Arm in American Lobster Processing

open access: yesDesigns, 2023
The American lobster (Homarus americanus) is the most valuable seafood on Canada’s Atlantic coast, generating over CAD 800 million in export revenue alone for New Brunswick.

Range‐Wide Genetic Population Structure and Environmental Adaptation in the Eastern Oyster (Crassostrea virginica) Provides Insight for Aquaculture

open access: yesMolecular Ecology, Volume 35, Issue 15, August 2026.
ABSTRACT Selective breeding in aquaculture is necessary to establish food security and meet demand for sustainably produced protein. An informed selective breeding program requires understanding how population structure, environmental adaptation, and human activities shape natural genetic variation in wild conspecifics.
