Home Automation in the Workplace
Work, 1994Environmental control units and home automation devices contribute to the independence and potential of individuals with disabilities, both at work and at home. Devices currently exist that can assist people with physical, cognitive, and sensory disabilities to control lighting, appliances, temperature, security, and telephone communications.

2005 Symposium on Applications and the Internet Workshops (SAINT 2005 Workshops), 2006
The actual trends on telecommunications and electronics in general are the convergence to all-IP networks and protocols. Consequently, new devices are appearing requiring more and more IP addresses. This is the situation present around the home/industrial automation and in general remote monitoring.

AbstractHome and building automation applications impose the need for convergence, or at least interoperability, of data networks with intelligent building networks. This situation entails the use of a unified management system. In this paper we extend the traditional SNMP‐based network management system paradigm by creating an integrated site network ...

ONDAR: An ontology for home automation
2015 15th International Conference on Intelligent Systems Design and Applications (ISDA), 2015Smart homes are houses equipped by computational technology to assist inhabitants in several situations. To design these complex systems we have to take into account the inhabitant's experiences and needs. A modeling language supporting the semantic aspect allows modeling close to end user needs.

On privacy in home automation systems

An architecture for a home automation system
1998 IEEE International Conference on Electronics, Circuits and Systems. Surfing the Waves of Science and Technology (Cat. No.98EX196), 2002This paper introduces home automation very briefly and mentions current standardisation trends in this field. Then, a new system architecture is proposed and its main characteristics are described. The proposed architecture has a distributed nature, is very modular and can be easily expanded in size and functionality.

Visions of smart homes have long caught the attention of researchers and considerable effort has been put toward enabling home automation. However, these technologies have not been widely adopted despite being available for over three decades. To gain insight into this state of affairs, we conducted semi-structured home visits to 14 households with ...

The engineer should be proud to give his best inventive skill to the solution of the problems of the housewife in the kitchen, since more routine work is done by educated people in the house and kitchen than anywhere else in the world, and the highest aim in life for the engineer is to give men and women a more satisfactory life. Even on a lower plane,
