Gender &History, EarlyView.ABSTRACT In 1977, an Israeli transgender woman, Judy Spotheim, published an autobiographical novel entitled The Cut. It describes the emergence of a trans community in the commercial‐sex areas of Tel Aviv‐Jaffa, hoping to humanise trans women (coccinelles). This article is the first to study the novel and present a biography of Spotheim.

Gender &History, EarlyView.ABSTRACT As Australia's wool industry produced vast amounts of fine fleece from the nineteenth century, the wool processing and clothes manufacturing industries generated waste – products like cuttings, combings, fettlings and flock. History, EarlyView.Abstract Historians generate knowledge through the labour of composition – through the friction between interpretation and evidence that makes claims open to scrutiny and challenge. This essay argues that when composition is bypassed, that structure disappears. Generative AI raises this issue in urgent fashion.
