Homo sapiens — en vetenskaplig kulturkrock

open access: yesKulturella Perspektiv, 2000
The completion of the HUGO-project will in a dramatic way alter basic research in all areas of biology. The use of the new information will be facilitated by emergence of bioinformatic and technical development for studies of all genes, which are ...

The oldest archeological data evidencing the relationship of Homo sapiens with psychoactive plants: A worldwide overview

open access: yesJournal of Psychedelic Studies, 2019
Modern sophisticated archeometric instruments are increasingly capable of detecting the presence of psychoactive plant sources in archeological contexts, testifying the antiquity of humanity’s search for altered states of consciousness.

Analysis of Treacher Collins syndrome 4‐associated mutations in Schizosaccharomyces pombe

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Fission yeast models carrying Treacher Collins syndrome type 4‐associated mutations reveal that impaired processivity of RNA polymerase I leads to defective rRNA transcription. This study highlights the essential role of a conserved arginine residue in Pol I elongation and provides mechanistic insight into the pathogenesis of ribosomopathies.

Nubian Levallois technology associated with southernmost Neanderthals

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Neanderthals occurred widely across north Eurasian landscapes, but between ~ 70 and 50 thousand years ago (ka) they expanded southwards into the Levant, which had previously been inhabited by Homo sapiens. Palaeoanthropological research in the first half

Homo Sapiens: Are We a Monogamous Species? [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
In order for the process of hominization to continue, with its prolonged and extreme period of juvenile defencelessness, it was necessary, or at least convenient, for males to more actively participate in the care of females and offspring. This necessity,

Patatin‐domain‐containing (phospho)lipases under control: Mammalian co‐regulators and pathogenic activation mechanisms

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Patatin domain‐containing (phospho)lipases are lipid‐hydrolyzing enzymes central to metabolism, membrane remodeling, and signaling. Their activity relies on precise co‐activation mechanisms involving protein–protein interactions and conformational rearrangements.

A dispersal of Homo sapiens from southern to eastern Africa immediately preceded the out-of-Africa migration

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2019
Africa was the birth-place of Homo sapiens and has the earliest evidence for symbolic behaviour and complex technologies. The best-attested early flowering of these distinctive features was in a glacial refuge zone on the southern coast 100–70 ka, with ...

Core promoter short tandem repeats as evolutionary switch codes for primate speciation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Alteration in gene expression levels underlies many of the phenotypic differences across species. Because of their highly mutable nature, proximity to the +1 transcription start site (TSS), and the emerging evidence of functional impact on gene ...
