Gasdynamics and homogeneous nucleation

Advances in Colloid and Interface Science, 1977
Abstract : The fundamentals of gasdynamics of one-dimensional flows with condensation are reviewed paying special attention to concepts from nonequilibrium flows, honogeneous nucleation, droplet growth. Flow systems for experimental research in condensation, namely steady-flow Laval nozzles, Ludwieg tubes, shock tubes and high intensity supersonic ...

Homogeneous nucleation of toluene

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1983
The authors have used a fast expansion chamber to measure the homogeneous nucleation rate of toluene as a function of temperature and supersaturation. The measured nucleation rate ranges from 102 to 105 drops/cm3 s over a temperature range of 215–267 K. The measurements are compared with the ‘‘classical’’ nucleation theory and with the RKC theory.

Externally applied electric fields up to 1.6 × 10(5) V/m do not affect the homogeneous nucleation of ice in supercooled water.

Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2011
The freezing of water can initiate at electrically conducting electrodes kept at a high electric potential or at charged electrically insulating surfaces.

Homogeneous nucleation of ethanol

The Journal of Chemical Physics, 1982
The authors have used an expansion cloud chamber to measure homogeneous nucleation rate as a function of temperature and supersaturation in ethanol. Nucleation rates from 102 to 105 drops/cm3 sec were measured in the temperature range 252–272 °K. An empirical functional fit to the data is used to extrapolate for comparison with other data in the ...

Homogeneous Nucleation in Condensation

1964
Abstract The current status of the theory of homogeneous nucleation in condensation is briefly reviewed. It is concluded that the present steady-state theory which correctly considers the statistical mechanical contributions to the free energy of formation of critical nuclei predicts rates that are higher by a factor of 10 18 than those of the ...

Homogeneous nucleation theory

1997
NOTE: Text or symbols not renderable in plain ASCII are indicated by [...]. Abstract is included in .pdf document. This thesis is composed of a brief preface followed by six chapters addressing various aspects of homogeneous nucleation theory. In the preface, I motivate the need for improved theoretical approaches to resolve the discrepancies between ...
