Patterns of aerial arthropod biomass and diversity from three regions of boreal Alaska

open access: yesInsect Conservation and Diversity, Volume 17, Issue 5, Page 826-855, September 2024.
We documented aerial arthropod biomass and diversity over 4 years in three regions in boreal Alaska—two in central Alaska and one in southcentral Alaska. Traps yielded 115,078 specimens of 15 orders and 692 unique taxa. Mean aerial arthropod biomass was more than three times higher in Fairbanks than in Anchorage.

Long‐term effects of elevated CO2 on the nutrition provided to parasitoids by their herbivorous hosts

open access: yesPhysiological Entomology, Volume 49, Issue 3, Page 244-252, September 2024.
We compared the nutritional and energy content of cabbage aphids grown on Brassica plants under elevated CO2 concentrations (up to 10 weeks) versus those grown on plants under ambient CO2. A significant decrease in body mass and energy reserves (i.e., the sum of total proteins, lipids, and water‐soluble carbohydrates) typified aphids grown under ...
