A Lightweight Procedural Layer for Hybrid Experimental–Computational Workflows in Materials Science

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
We unveil a prototype hybrid‐workflow framework that fuses automatedcomputation with hands‐on experiments. Built atop pyiron, a lightweight, parameterized layer translates procedure descriptions into executable manual steps, syncing instrument settings, human interventions, and data capture in real‐time today.

The hoof renewal time of Thoroughbred foals from birth [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
A circumferential ring in the hoof horn of foals occurs at birth and grows down to the distal border as the fetal hoof is replaced. Horn growth and complete hoof capsule renewal have not been measured in Thoroughbred foals but the determination of time ...

Molecular Dynamics Studies of Shape Memory Polymers: From Bead–Spring Models to Atomistic Simulations

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Coarse‐grained (left) and atomistic (right) models of the shape memory polymer ESTANE ETE 75DT3 are shown schematically. The two representations bridge molecular detail and mesoscopic description. Both models capture shape memory behavior, linking segmental mobility and conformational relaxation of anisotropic chains to macroscopic recovery, and ...

The effect of trimming of the frog on the impact accelerations of the equine hoof during walk and trot

open access: yes, 2009
Bij conventioneel bekapte hoeven heeft de straal niet tot nauwelijks contact met de grond. Het wordt verondersteld dat de energieabsorberende functie van de straal hierbij gereduceerd is of mogelijk zelfs vrijwel afwezig is.

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Partial herd hoof trimming results in a higher economic net benefit than whole herd hoof trimming in dairy herds.

open access: yesPLoS ONE
Sole ulcers, a common cause of lameness is the costliest non-infectious foot lesion in dairy cows and one of the most prevalent non-infectious foot lesions in freestall housing systems.

Hoof quality of Anglo-Arabian and Haflinger horses

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2017
Introduction: Foot quality is essential to the horse’s movement. The barefoot approach favours the animal’s welfare. Environment and selection determine hoof characteristics. Material and Methods: Hoof characteristics of eight Anglo-Arabian (AA) and nine

Moet die Afrikaanse Kerke skuld bely oor apartheid?: Wat leer ons uit die Duitsers se worsteling met skuld?

open access: yesHTS Teologiese Studies/Theological Studies, 1997
Should Afrikaans churches confess guilt for its share in apartheid? What do we learn from the German discussion? This article asks the question whether the Afrikaans-speaking churches should confess guilt publicly for their support of the apartheid-state.

Design Strategies and Emerging Applications of High‐Performance Flexible Piezoresistive Pressure Sensors

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Flexible piezoresistive pressure sensors underpin wearable and soft electronics. This review links sensing physics, including contact resistance modulation, quantum tunneling and percolation, to unified materials/structure design. We highlight composite and graded architectures, interfacial/porous engineering, and microstructured 3D conductive networks
