Analysis of the influence of supplementary reinforcement on the behavior of reinforced‐concrete two‐pile caps subjected to concentric and eccentric loading

open access: yesStructural Concrete, EarlyView.
Abstract This article examines the behavior of reinforced‐concrete pile caps on two piles under concentric and eccentric loading, with emphasis on the influence of horizontal and vertical supplementary reinforcement on load‐carrying capacity. Although the Strut‐and‐Tie method does not include this reinforcement in the internal equilibrium, it was found

A New Model of Feeding Biomechanics Based on Tied‐Arch Principles

open access: yesIntegrative Zoology, EarlyView.
This new biomechanical model explains the major stress and strain patterns generated through the cranium during biting. The model proposes that the cranium resolves bite‐induced reaction forces through arcs of compressive stress that span the cranial structure between biting teeth and both jaw joints.

THE STRESS-STRAIN STATE OF ELASTIC HALF-SPACE LOADED BY UNIFORMLY DISTRIBUTED LOAD OVER THE AREA OF THE RECTANGLE AND THE INFINITE STRIP

open access: yesNauka ta progres transportu, 2009
The article shows the result of solving the problem on the stressed-and-strained state of an elastic semi-space because of the load action, which is uniformly distributed over the strip of constantly width and final or infinite length, with the use of ...

“Why?”: C. Wright Mills on the Spirit of the Classical Sociological Tradition and Positivist Versus Critical Sociology

open access: yesSociology Lens, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Despite their very diverse interests, the classical sociological thinkers were concerned with analyzing the dramatic social transformations in the wake of colonialism, slavery, and modern industrial capitalism as well as the multiple revolutions, particularly in relation to the new forms of social inequalities and power disparities.

Disentangling Thermal and Hydraulic Drivers of Stomatal Conductance Under Hot Versus Dry Vapour Pressure Deficit Increases Using Water‐Use Efficiency

open access: yesPlant, Cell &Environment, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Predicting plant functioning in a warming world requires capturing its divergent responses to hot versus dry vapour pressure deficit (VPD) increases. Stomatal responses to VPD are typically studied without disentangling the effects of RH and temperature, creating uncertainties for future plant functioning.

Dual Activation of H2 and CO2 by a Pincer‐Type Ni–Zn Heterobimetallic Complex

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 34, 17 August 2026.
A bimetallic Ni−Zn complex performs sequential activations of H2 (1 equiv) and CO2 (2 equiv). This bimetallic cooperativity is attributed to the weak Lewis acidic nature of Zn(II), which promotes fluxional ligand binding. Namely, an X‐type ligand at Ni, where X is hydride or formate, toggles between two different binding modes: bridging Zn(μ‐X)Ni and ...

Laws and Reasons Why

open access: yesAnalytic Philosophy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Laws play some role in explanations: at the very least, they somehow connect what is explained, or the explanandum, to what explains, or the explanans. Thus, thermodynamical laws connect the match's being struck and its lightning, so that the former causes the latter; and laws about set formation connect Socrates' existence with {Socrates}'s ...

Determining properties of human‐induced pluripotent stem cell‐derived cardiomyocytes using spatially resolved electromechanical metrics

open access: yesThe Journal of Physiology, EarlyView.
Abstract figure legend In this study, we use human‐induced pluripotent stem cell‐derived cardiomyocyte (hiPSC‐CM) experiments and computational modelling to identify the mechanism of action of drug compounds. In the hiPSC‐CM experiments, optical measurements of cell collections are recorded in the baseline case and after drug exposure.
