The glomalin-related soil protein content as influenced by crop rotation (spring barley monoculture/Norfolk crop rotation), straw application, and tillage

open access: yesFrontiers in Soil Science
Long-term field experiments were established in 1969 at the gleyic fluvisol to assess the effects of soil management on soil organic matter and glomalin-related soil proteins. Two systems were studied: Hordeum vulgare L.

GENETIC CONTROL OF ULTRA-EARLINESS IN CHINESE BARLEY LANDRACES

open access: yesТруды по прикладной ботанике, генетике и селекции, 2018
Ultra-early maturity of the Chinese barley landraces k-15881 (Hordeum vulgare L. var. coeleste L.) and k-15882 (var. nudipyramidatum Koern.) from VIR’s barley collection is controlled by three identical recessive genes.

Loss of E3 ligase HvST1 function substantially increases distal crossover frequency

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 3, Page 1325-1341, February 2026.
Summary This study characterizes the function of a grass‐specific E3 ubiquitin ligase, HvST1, in regulating synapsis and crossover (CO) formation during meiosis in barley (Hordeum vulgare). In large‐genome cereals, COs are predominantly restricted to distal chromosomal regions, limiting genetic recombination and breeding flexibility.

Microarray Analysis of Late Response to Boron Toxicity in Barley (Hordeum vulgare L.) Leaves [PDF]

open access: yes
DNA microarrays, being high-density and high-throughput, allow quantitative analyses of thousands of genes and their expression patterns in parallel. In this study, Barley1 GereChip was used to investigate transcriptome changes associated with boron (B ...

Calcium signaling in crops

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 249, Issue 4, Page 1644-1658, February 2026.
Summary Calcium (Ca2+) signaling is integral to nearly all aspects of plant biology, including development and responses to biotic and abiotic stresses. It operates through two main layers: the generation of Ca2+ signals and their decoding by Ca2+‐binding proteins, which act early in diverse signaling pathways. The system exhibits remarkable robustness
