On the determination of gravity wave momentum flux from GPS radio occultation data [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Measurement Techniques, 2013
Global Positioning System (GPS) radio occultation (RO) is a well-established technique for obtaining global gravity wave (GW) information. RO uses GPS signals received by low Earth-orbiting satellites for atmospheric limb sounding.

Longwall shearer tracking system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1984
A tracking system for measuring and recording the movements of a longwall shearer vehicle includes an optical tracking assembly carried at one end of a desired vehicle path and a retroreflector assembly carried by the vehicle.

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Chameleon sequences reveal structural effects in proteins representing micelle‐like distribution of hydrophobicity

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Amino acids sequence of two different proteins with the same sequence (chameleon sequence—black boxes) represent in 3D structure of the proteins different secondary structures: HHHH—helical and BBB—Beta‐structural. The chains folded in water environment adopt different III‐order structures in which the chameleon fragments appear to adopt similar status

Almost Paracontact Finsler Structures on Vector Bundle [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
In this paper, we define almost paracontact and normal almost paracontact Finsler structures on a vector bundle and find some conditions for integrability of these structures.

Long‐Term Follow‐Up of Chemotherapy‐Associated Biological Aging in Women With Early Breast Cancer

open access: yesAging and Cancer, EarlyView.
Women threated with adjuvant chemotherapy for early breast cancer have sustained long‐term increase in p16INK4a,, a robust marker of cell senescence, suggesting a chemotherapy‐associated age acceleration. p16INK4a as well as other biomarkers may identify patients at greatest risk for senescence‐related diseases of aging.

Investigation of the magnification of digital panoramic radiographs in different regions of the jaws

open access: yesSRM Journal of Research in Dental Sciences, 2016
Introduction: Distortion and geometric changes are major problems in panoramic radiography. As the digital panoramic machines are diverse and widely used, providing precise dimensions in each structure in the radiographs can improve their application ...

Damping‐dependent correlations between horizontal‐horizontal, horizontal‐vertical, and vertical‐vertical pairs of spectral accelerations

open access: yesEarthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics
AbstractCorrelation coefficients for 5%‐damped spectral accelerations (SAs) of horizontal ground‐motion components have been extensively studied and applied in probabilistic seismic analysis using vector‐valued intensity measures (IMs). Such correlations are, however, not sufficient for structures with different damping ratios under multidirectional ...

Modeling and position control of a new quad-rotor unmanned aerial vehicle with tilt-wing mechanism [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
In this work a dynamic model of a new quadrotor aerial vehicle that is equipped with a tilt-wing mechanism is presented. The vehicle has the capabilities of vertical take-off/landing (VTOL) like a helicopter and flying horizontal like an airplane ...
