Scaling of Horizontal and Vertical Fixational Eye Movements

open access: yes, 2004
Eye movements during fixation of a stationary target prevent the adaptation of the photoreceptors to continuous illumination and inhibit fading of the image. These random, involuntary, small, movements are restricted at long time scales so as to keep the

Mobile vs. point guards [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
We study the problem of guarding orthogonal art galleries with horizontal mobile guards (alternatively, vertical) and point guards, using "rectangular vision".

Prevalence of Systemic Lupus Erythematosus in Australia, 2010–2022: A Population‐Based Study Using Linked National Administrative Health Data

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogenous inflammatory condition with widely varying global prevalence estimates. The frequency of SLE in the general population of Australia has been reported to be notably lower than contemporary estimates in countries such as the United States or United Kingdom, at 19 to 39 per 100,000 as opposed ...

Wind measurement system [PDF]

open access: yes, 1976
A system for remotely measuring vertical and horizontal winds present in discrete volumes of air at selected locations above the ground is described. A laser beam is optically focused in range by a telescope, and the output beam is conically scanned at ...

Risk of Retinopathy Associated with Long‐Term Use of Hydroxychloroquine in Patients with Rheumatic Diseases: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective We aimed to estimate the prevalence and cumulative incidence of hydroxychloroquine retinopathy (HCQ‐R) and its risk factors among patients receiving long‐term HCQ with rheumatic diseases through a systematic review and meta‐analysis of observational studies that used spectral‐domain optical coherence tomography (SD‐OCT) for screening ...

Numerical Method for Horizontal and Vertical Spatial Resolutions of Seismic Acquisition Geometries in Complex 3D Media

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Spatial sampling, finite bandwidth, and overlying-strata shielding are three key issues to affect the spatial resolution of seismic imaging for deep targets.

Safety of Prescription Nonsteroidal Anti‐inflammatory Drugs in Adults With Inflammatory Bowel Disease: Data From a Large Administrative Claims Cohort

open access: yesArthritis Care &Research, EarlyView.
Objective The concern that nonsteroidal anti‐inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) may precipitate flares of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) has limited their use in managing musculoskeletal symptoms in those with IBD, but safety data are mixed. Methods This retrospective cohort study included patients with IBD aged at least 18 years from Optum's deidentified ...

RECENT RESEARCHES OF THE LATERAL FLEXIBILITY OF RAIL THREAD UNDER COMBINED ACTION OF VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL FORCES

open access: yesNauka ta progres transportu, 2015
Purpose. Studying the characteristics of spatial flexibility of rail thread is necessary for solving problems in calculation rails durability in full formulation, namely under combined action of vertical and horizontal forces and torque moment on the ...

Modelling static 3-D spatial background error covariances – the effect of vertical and horizontal transform order [PDF]

open access: yesAdvances in Science and Research, 2014
A major difference in the formulation of the univariate part of static background error covariance models for use in global operational 4DVAR arises from the order in which the horizontal and vertical transforms are applied.

Revisiting Stability Criteria in Ball‐Milled High‐Entropy Alloys: Do Hume–Rothery and Thermodynamic Rules Equally Apply?

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, Volume 27, Issue 6, March 2025.
The stability criteria affecting the formation of high‐entropy alloys, particularly focusing in supersaturated solid solutions produced by mechanical alloying, are analyzed. Criteria based on Hume–Rothery rules are distinguished from those derived from thermodynamic relations. The formers are generally applicable to mechanically alloyed samples.
