Adaptation Of Horizontal Semicircular Canal Responses
Acta Oto-Laryngologica, 1973The torsion pendulum model predicts semicircular canal responses when angular accelerative stimuli are relatively brief, but certain discrepancies appear when accelerations are sustained for a longer time. A recently proposed revision of the torsion pendulum model accounts for many of these discrepancies on the basis of a short-term adaptation process.

System design and performance of a unilateral horizontal semicircular canal prosthesis
IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Engineering, 2002We have reported preliminary results regarding a prototype semicircular canal prosthesis and concluded that it can provide rotational cues to the nervous system. This paper presents the system design of the prosthesis, and also reports the prosthesis system performance and effectiveness.

Fenestration of the horizontal semicircular canal in congenital conductive deafness
The Laryngoscope, 1985AbstractFenestration of the horizontal semicircular canal enables the otologic surgeon to restore hearing in those patients with congenital conductive deafness who are not candidates for stapedectomy, ossicular reconstruction, or tympanoplasty. Since the development of stapedectomy, much of the finesse technique of fenestration surgery has been lost ...

Reversible Canalith Jam of the Horizontal Semicircular Canal Mimicking Cupulolithiasis
Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology, 2021Objective: To describe a case of benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) resulting in reversible horizontal semicircular canalith jam successfully treated with horizontal canal occlusion.

In order to clarify the pathological localization of horizontal canal benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (HC-BPPV), we performed 3D analysis of positional nystagmus in 11 patients with HC-BPPV. In addition, these results were compared with 3D analysis data of pressure nystagmus in patients with HC fistula.

Cupulolithiasis of the horizontal semicircular canal
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2011To clarify whether positional nystagmus of horizontal cupulolithiasis contains vertical and torsional components, and to quantify the asymmetry, we analyzed nystagmus in four positions (healthy-ear-down, affected-ear-down, supine, nose-down), using 3-dimensional video-oculography.

Effect of cochlear implantation on horizontal semicircular canal function
European Archives of Oto-Rhino-Laryngology, 2008The objective of this study was to assess the influence of a cochlear implant (CI) on horizontal semicircular canal (hSCC) function, to test the correlation with symptomatic vertigo and to identify possible risk factors for a postoperative vestibular impairment.

Horizontal semicircular canal variant of benign positional vertigo
Neurology, 1993We report the clinical features and results of quantitative eye-movement testing in 13 patients with episodic positional vertigo and nonfatiguing direction-changing horizontal positional nystagmus (beating to the right with the head turned to the right and beating to the left with the head turned to the left).
