Copper Nanocrystallization in Anodic Oxide Films of Ti–Cu‐Based Bulk Metallic Glass and Its Effect on the Corrosion Resistance and Cytocompatibility

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Viktoriia Shtefan, Thorgund Nemec, Ute Hempel, Annett Gebert and coworkers demonstrate that anodic treatment of Ti–Cu‐based metallic glass in a nontoxic pyrophosphate electrolyte forms a protective bilayered Ti/Zr‐oxide film enriched with Cu nanocrystals.

Falling Film Transitions on Horizontal Enhanced Tubes: Effect of Tube Spacing

open access: yesProcedia Engineering, 2017
Abstract Horizontal falling film heat exchanger is widely applied to industrial area. In this work, falling film flow mode of tube bundles test bed was built for solving the basic problem of falling film heat transfer. Three tube spacing( s =6mm, 10mm, 15mm,) and three types of tube(smooth, two(2D) and three (3D) dimensional finned enhanced)were ...

Cathodic Cage Plasma Deposition of Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se Coatings on Poly(methyl Methacrylate)

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Nanostructured Cu–Fe–Se coatings are deposited on PMMA by a modified cathodic cage plasma process, enabling low‐temperature deposition on polymer substrates. A transition from discontinuous to compact morphology is observed with temperature, with optimal properties at 200°C, where improved CuFeSe2‐type bonding, lowest sheet resistance, and favorable ...

Localisation of the Unerupted Maxillary Canine Additional Observations

open access: yesAustralasian Orthodontic Journal, 1994
Occlusal radiographs are recommended for the tube shift method used to localise the unerupted maxillary canine. Several case histories are presented to explore how diagnostic occlusal films may be obtained.

Heat rejection from horizontal tubes to shallow fluidized beds [PDF]

open access: yes, 1974
Improvement of the environmental and economic characteristics of cooling towers, pt. 1As fluidized beds can result in an order of magnitude increase in the heat transfer coefficinet for a surface, they can potentially be coupled with dry cooling ...

Topological carbon allotropes: paradigm shift for materials innovation

open access: yes, 2019
Topology is a central concept of mathematics, which allows us to distinguish two isolated rings with linked ones. In material science, researchers discovered topologically different carbon allotropes in a form of a cage, a tube, and a sheet, which have ...

3D (Bio) Printing Combined Fiber Fabrication Methods for Tissue Engineering Applications: Possibilities and Limitations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Biofabrication aims at providing innovative technologies and tools for the fabrication of tissue‐like constructs for tissue engineering and regenerative medicine applications. By integrating multiple biofabrication technologies, such as 3D (bio) printing with fiber fabrication methods, it would be more realistic to reconstruct native tissue's ...

Non-linear numerical simulations of magneto-acoustic wave propagation in small-scale flux tubes

open access: yes, 2008
We present results of non-linear, 2D, numerical simulations of magneto-acoustic wave propagation in the photosphere and chromosphere of small-scale flux tubes with internal structure.

NanoMOF‐Based Multilevel Anti‐Counterfeiting by a Combination of Visible and Invisible Photoluminescence and Conductivity

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study presents novel anti‐counterfeiting tags with multilevel security features that utilize additional disguise features. They combine luminescent nanosized Ln‐MOFs with conductive polymers to multifunctional mixed‐matrix membranes and powder composites. The materials exhibit visible/NIR emission and matrix‐based conductivity even as black bodies.

Demonstration of an All‐Optical AND Gate Mediated by Photochromic Molecules

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A logic AND gate that runs on photons is demonstrated. It relies on two spatially separated photochromic molecules that work in tandem. Abstract The realization of a photonic logic AND gate, i.e. a logic AND gate that runs on photons rather than electrons, and where all steps are controlled by light, is demonstrated. In a proof‐of‐principle experiment,
