Biomass of Roots in Natural Oak-Hornbeam Ecosystem

ABSTRACT The biomass, length, volume and surface area of roots were studied in an 80-year old oak-hornbeam forest ecosystem. The total root biomass was 78.85 t.ha -1 . The proportion of dead roots, without the biomass of stumps was 7.2%. The living roots including stump biomass amounted to 27.7% of the total biomass.
