Crustacean exoskeletons, repurposed from food waste, are engineered into sustainable bending actuators combining biotic structure with synthetic control. The augmented exoskeletons achieve rapid and robust motion with lightweight body and can be used as part of robotic manipulators, grippers and swimmers.

Current gold‐standard endotoxin detection relies on Limulus Amebocyte Lysate (LAL) reagents, yet this approach suffers from unsustainable exploitation of Limulus resources. Here, we developed a fiber‐optic Surface‐enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probe that enables highly sensitive endotoxin detection with drastically reduced LAL consumption.
