Large‐scale bidirectional arrayed genetic screens identify OXR1 and EMC4 as modifiers of αSynuclein aggregation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Activation of the mitochondrial protein OXR1 increases pSyn129 αSynuclein aggregation by lowering ATP levels and altering mitochondrial membrane potential, particularly in response to MSA‐derived fibrils. In contrast, ablation of the ER protein EMC4 enhances autophagic flux and lysosomal clearance, broadly reducing α‐synuclein aggregates.

Hospital-acquired urinary tract infections in Turkey: a nationwide multicenter point prevalence study

open access: yes, 2003
Hospital-acquired urinary tract infection (UTI) is the most common infection acquired in hospitals. The aim of the study was to determine the prevalence of UTIs in Turkey. A nationwide one day point-prevalence survey was conducted.

Vitamin D supplementation in individuals with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM): a systematic review and meta-analysis focusing on pediatrics

open access: yesDiabetology & Metabolic Syndrome
Backgrounds Type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) is a significant global health concern, particularly among pediatric populations. Emerging evidence suggests that vitamin D supplementation may support glycemic control in individuals with T1DM; however ...

Identifying transcription factors controlling the basal expression of human MRP4 highlights a substantial role for Sp1

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The MRP4 transporter exports several drugs and signaling molecules. Here, we identified key promoter elements regulating basal MRP4 expression. Using reporter assays, we defined a conserved region with essential Sp1 and contributory Ets sites, which controlled basal MRP4 expression.

Epidemiology and infection - going electronic after 100 years [PDF]

open access: yes, 2005
Epidemiology and Infection became 100 years old in 2001. Its powers and influence however do not appear to have diminished, and, as the Senior Editor appointed in its 101st year, I am greatly honoured to be so closely associated with it.

Economics and preventing hospital-acquired infection: Broadening the perspective [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Objective. To present a hypothetical model of the change in economic costs and health benefits to society that result from nosocomial infection control programs. Design. We use a modeling framework to represent how 2 types of costs change with nosocomial

Versatile vector tools for efficient protein screening across multiple expression systems

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
A unified vector toolkit enables rapid protein expression screening across E. coli, insect, and mammalian cells. A single primer pair amplifies the target gene, which is inserted into any vector via a standardized interface. This streamlined workflow eliminates repeated cloning steps, accelerating the identification of optimal expression conditions for

Economic impact of treatment for surgical site infections in cases of total knee arthroplasty in a tertiary public hospital in Brazil

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Infectious Diseases
The aim of this study was to estimate the additional cost of treatment of a group of nosocomial infections in a tertiary public hospital. A retrospective observational cohort study was conducted by means of analyzing the medical records of 34 patients ...

Emerging insights into CC and CXC chemokines and their receptors in Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The dual roles of CC and CXC chemokines in distinguishing active, latent, and subclinical tuberculosis were reviewed, along with an evaluation of their potential as diagnostic biomarkers and therapeutic targets to advance precision medicine in tuberculosis management. The graphical abstract was generated with AI assistance (Gemini 3.0).
