A Critical Time Window of Neocortex Modulation for Remote Fear Memory in Rats and Humans

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study identifies a delayed consolidation window around 18 h after fear learning in the mPFC essential for remote fear memory. VTA dopaminergic input during this window sustains remote memory in rats, while non‐invasive stimulation of homologous human mPFC at the corresponding time selectively weakens remote but not recent fear memory, revealing a ...

The transition of stroke survivors from hospital to home: Understanding work and design opportunities [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
A growing body of HCI research explores designs to support rehabilitation after stroke. While rehabilitation is a major part of a stroke survivor’s recovery, it is not the only part that could benefit from HCI work.

Disrupted TFEB/GDNF–cAMP/ATP Coupling Underlies Astrocytic Dysfunction and Depression in LRRK2 G2019S Parkinson's Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT The LRRK2 G2019S mutation, a Parkinson's disease–linked variant, has been associated with depression‐like phenotypes, but mechanisms remain unclear. We chart age‐dependent behavioral changes and astrocyte reactivity in G2019S mice and define a pathway connecting LRRK2 to TFEB/GDNF signaling, cellular energetics, and inflammation.

The Facilitators to Care Transition from Hospital to Home After Stroke: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesIranian Journal of Nursing and Midwifery Research
Background: Ineffective hospital-to-home care transition (HHCT) can lead to the early rehospitalization of patients with stroke (PWS). Therefore, effective HHCT management is essential to maintain patient safety and reduce rehospitalization.

Longitudinal Morphomolecular Monitoring of Head and Neck Carcinogenesis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A miniaturized endoscopic probe that integrates Raman spectroscopy and optical coherence tomography, enabling simultaneous molecular and structural imaging of living tissue, was developed. Applied longitudinally in a mouse model of head and neck cancer, the system tracks disease progression from precancerous lesions to invasive cancer.

Gm26550 Modulates Learning and Memory by Increasing IGF1 mRNA Expression and Stability in Nrf2−/− Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The present study shows that Nrf2 directly binds to the Gm26550 promoter, thereby activating Gm26550 transcription and increasing its expression. Mechanistically, Gm26550 promotes IGF1 expression by functionally antagonizing miR‐26a‐5p‐mediated repression and sequestering the RBP KHSRP, thereby enhancing hippocampal neuronal synaptic plasticity and ...

TRANSFER‐I: Hospitalised Older Adults and Their Carers' Perspectives of the Transition Home: A Qualitative Study

open access: yesHealth Expectations
Background Transitioning from hospital to home is a critical and fragmented process for acutely ill older adults and their carers. Despite widespread recognition of its importance, persistent gaps leave older adults vulnerable, highlighting the urgent ...
