Fish Poxviruses on the Rise: Prospects for Aquatic Health

ABSTRACT Fish poxviruses are increasingly recognised as emerging pathogens of fish and should be considered in cases of unexplained gill or skin pathology. Carp edema virus (CEV), the causative agent of koi sleepy disease in common carp and koi (Cyprinus carpio), represents the first known example.

ABSTRACT Investigation of a disease outbreak in a hobbyist's medaka (Oryzias latipes) collection led to the detection of Trichodina sp. in the kidney tubuli of individual fish. Based on this observation, a thorough clinical workup, including native microscopy, histopathology and molecular genetics, was conducted.

Bark‐associated yeasts and their potential role as tree carbon sink at the treeline of the southern Andes

In the southern Andes, Nothofagus pumilio shows elevational decreases in the concentrations of carbon reserves which are the food of bark‐associated yeasts, suggesting that competition for carbohydrates between tree growth and bark‐associated yeasts may cause carbon shortages.
