The Shewanella oneidensis Fic enzyme SoFic targets the switch‐I region of EF‐Tu for AMPylation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fic enzymes mediate diverse post‐translational modifications across all domains of life, including AMPylation. Prokaryotic EF‐Tu can be AMPylated and deAMPylated by the conserved Fic enzyme SoFic. Structural and biochemical approaches were used to characterize the effect of AMPylation on EF‐Tu, SoFic's enzymatic activities, and the enzyme‐target ...

Current Understanding and Future Prospects of Host Selection, Acceptance, Discrimination, and Regulation of Phorid Fly Parasitoids That Attack Ants

open access: yesPsyche: A Journal of Entomology, 2012
Phorid fly parasitoids (Diptera: Phoridae) have evolved a diverse array of cues used to successfully parasitize their ant hosts. Successful parasitism often involves (a) host habitat location, (b) host location, (c) host acceptance, (d) host ...

Selection of parasitoids of the genus Trichogramma (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae) and parasitism at different eggs ages of Duponchelia fovealis (Lepidoptera: Crambidae)

open access: yesActa Scientiarum: Biological Sciences, 2018
The European pepper moth Duponchelia fovealis (Zeller, 1847) (Lepidoptera: Crambidae), despite being among the principal pests of strawberries in Brazil. However, biological control methods are rarely documented for this pest. In the current study, the

The effect of temperature on host patch exploitation by an egg parasitoid.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
The effect of temperature during host patch exploitation by parasitoids remains poorly understood, despite its importance on female reproductive success.

L‐aspartate oxidase provides new insights into fumarate reduction in anaerobic darkness in Synechocystis sp. PCC6803

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Synechocystis strains deficient in succinate dehydrogenase (SDH) secrete more succinate than the WT under dark anaerobic conditions, supporting that SDH then primarily acts as SDH, not as a fumarate reductase. L‐aspartate oxidase (Laspo) from Synechocystis is functional under anaerobic conditions, reducing fumarate to succinate.

Host specificity and genetics of host resistance in the "Daphnia-Pasteuria" host-parasite system [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Antagonistic coevolution plays an important role in a large number of evolutionary and ecological phenomena. Furthermore, according to the Red Queen Theory coevolution between hosts and their parasites may explain the maintenance of sexual reproduction ...

The heterodimeric amino acid transporters (HAT) of the SLC7/SLC3 family: A structure−function relationships and relevance to human pathology

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Heterodimeric amino acid transporters consist of SLC7 and SLC3 family proteins arranged in a conserved structural organization. They regulate nutrient transport across cell membranes, supporting essential cellular functions. These transporters also contribute to xenobiotic/drug uptake and distribution.

Exploring host community attitudes towards Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh

open access: yesIntervention Journal of Mental Health and Psychosocial Support in Conflict Affected Areas, 2019
Acceptance and assistance from the host community is crucial to ensure support for refugee populations. This article explores attitudes of the host community about Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh.

Membrane composition and thermodynamic identity as boundaries of life for synthetic cell research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
What makes a cell a cell? The boundary of a living cell is not just a wall. Read as a Markov blanket, the membrane separates internal from external states, generating identity and non‐equilibrium order. Can this identity be rebuilt from scratch in a synthetic cell?

Demographic differences and internet banking acceptance [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
This research contributes to additional understanding of TAM’s validity in Internet banking acceptance. Although some user profile variables have been examined in technology acceptance research, there has been little research investigating the new roles ...
