Mechanism of strength degradation for hot corrosion of alpha-SiC [PDF]
Sintered alpha SiC was corroded by thin films of Na2SO4 and Na2CO3 molten salts at 1000%. This hot corrosion attack reduced room temperature strengths by as much as 50%.
