Review on modeling and simulation of dynamic recrystallization of martensitic stainless steels during bulk hot deformation

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology, 2022
Bulk hot deformation is a relatively old manufacturing technique widely adopted in different industry fields to form and shape different metallic alloys. Martensitic stainless steels (MSS) are a class of metals used in industries with extreme conditions.

Experimental Characterization of Mycelium‐Based Composites Under Multiple Loading Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This study examines the mechanical response of mycelium‐based composites under compression, shear, and tension using mechanical testing and imaging methods. The comparison between unpressed and hot‐pressed specimens shows that hot pressing is associated with higher compression and shear stiffnesses.

On the modelling of highly elastic flows of amorphous thermoplastics [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Two approaches to the kinematic structuring of constitutive models for highly elastic flows of polymer melts have been examined systematically, assuming either: (1) additivity of elastic and viscous velocity gradients or (2) multiplicability of elastic ...

Experimental and Numerical Modal Analysis of Composite Sandwich Structures Using Surfboards as Model Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
This article presents an experimental and numerical modal investigation of composite sandwich structures using surfboards as model systems. By comparing different core materials and reinforcement strategies, the study demonstrates how local stiffeners influence vibrational response and introduce characteristic modal features, highlighting modal ...

Non-monotonic strain-rate sensitivity in an ultra-coarse-grained high-Al and high-Mn low-density duplex steel: Competition between ferrite substructure hardening and strain-induced transformation

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The room-temperature tensile deformation behavior of an ultra-coarse-grained duplex low-density Fe–30Mn–9Al–0.07C steel (wt.%) was investigated under quasi-static strain rates of 10−1–10−5s−1.

Microstructure, Thermal Transport, and Dry‐Sliding Tribology of Powder‐Metallurgy Al7075 Composites Reinforced With Sol–Gel‐Derived ZnO–rGO Hybrid Nanoparticles

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Sol–gel‐derived ZnO–rGO hybrid nanoparticles enable Al7075 powder‐metallurgy composites to achieve concurrent gains in hardness and thermal conductivity while markedly lowering friction and wear. The hybrid architecture couples ZnO‐based load support with rGO‐assisted lamellar sliding and heat spreading, revealing a promising route toward lightweight ...

Hot Deformation Studies On A Low-Carbon Steel: Part 2 - An Algorithm For The Flow Stress Determination Under Varying Process Conditions [PDF]

open access: yes, 1996
A variety of materials are processed using hot deformation, and simulation of these processes needs information on the flow stress as influenced by the process parameters since different locations in the work material undergo a continuously changing ...

Flow softening and recrystallization accompanied flow in AZ61 magnesium alloy during thermomechanical processing

open access: yesHeliyon
The present work deals with characterizing the recrystallization accompanied flow and high temperature softening behavior of an extruded AZ61 magnesium alloy. This was supported by conducting a set of hot compression tests at temperatures in the range of

Influence of Scan Strategies in Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion on Solidification, Microstructure, and High‐Temperature Compressive Properties of γ′‐Strengthened Inconel 738LC

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Experiments and thermophysical simulations were conducted to investigate the electron beam powder bed fusion electron beam (PBF‐EB/M) process for the γ′‐strengthened nickel‐based superalloy Inconel 738LC. The results demonstrate the impact of process‐induced microstructural variations on high‐temperature mechanical behavior, providing a basis for ...

A new powder encapsulation method and its implications on densification by hot isostatic pressing [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
Hot isostatic pressing is now an accepted material processing technique for the consolidation of metal powders to near-net-shape components. This thesis examines the use of coatings as in-situ envelopes to overcome the problems associated with ...
