Interpretable Machine Learning Framework for Nb─Si Based Alloy Design with Enhanced Fracture Toughness

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An interpretable machine learning framework integrating SHAP and PDP analysis identifies critical design descriptors from 139 physicochemical features for Nb─Si alloys. The framework achieves <7% prediction error and guides the discovery of Nb38.5Ti38.5Si3Zr18V2 alloy with 22.791 MPa·m1/2 fracture toughness, breaking the 20 MPa·m1/2 barrier.

Ductility Improvement in Devitrified Ultrafine-grained Al-4.0Y-4.0Ni-0.9Co Alloy via Hot Rolling

open access: yes, 2007
As-extruded ultrafine-grained Al-4.0Y-4.0Ni-0.9Co alloy produced by amorphous powders exhibited high strength but low ductility. Hot rolling of the as-extruded material resulted in enhancement in ductility.

Automated Extraction of Multicomponent Alloy Data Using Large Language Models for Sustainable Design

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A large language model (LLM) based pipeline is developed to automatically extract a comprehensive and accurate multicomponent alloy database from literature corpus. The extracted dataset is integrated with sustainability indicators to identify potential alloys that outperform existing industrial benchmark materials in terms of both performance and ...

Thermally Processable, Transparent, Mechanically Tunable and Robust Bioplastics From Wastepaper

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Unlike conventional inefficient or low‐value wastepaper recycling, a directional transformation strategy is employed to convert whole wastepaper into intact bioplastics with tunable mechanical properties in our work. These bioplastics can be processed into flexible bags or rigid containers and exhibit high transparency, water resistance, repairability,

Unlocking Strength‐Toughness Dilemma in High‐Entropy Borides by Intragranular Microstructural Reconstruction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
An extreme non‐equilibrium process combining heavy direct current sintering and TiSi2 addition is used to construct intragranular energy dissipation units within high‐entropy boride ceramics to overcome the strength‐toughness trade‐off. The resulting ceramic demonstrates attractive mechanical properties with a flexural strength of 887 MPa and a ...

Microstructural evolution and mechanical response of AA2099 Al–Li alloy regulated via thermal rolling pre-aging process

open access: yesJournal of Materials Research and Technology
The AA2099 Al–Li alloy is widely used in aerospace structures owing to its high specific strength and low density. However, achieving an optimal balance between strength and ductility remains challenging under conventional heat treatment processes.

Large Language Model‐Informed Dual‐Track AI Framework for the Synergistic Design of Crack‐Free and High‐Strength Superalloys

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This paper illustrates a knowledge‐augmented dual‐track AI framework for advanced superalloy design. First, Large Language Models translate metallurgical heuristics into explicit rules to rapidly prune a vast compositional search space. Subsequently, LLM‐distilled priors safely guide a reinforcement learning agent during autonomous process optimization,
