Fabrication, Characterization, and Antimicrobial Activity of PLA/Chitosan Composites Reinforced With Sugarcane Bagasse–Derived Fillers

open access: yesApplied Research, Volume 5, Issue 4, August 2026.
Fiber treatment improved sugarcane bagasse by increasing cellulose content to 71.7% and crystallinity to 91.36%. Among composites, PLA–CS–UASCB showed the best overall performance, maintaining tensile strength and modulus close to pure PLA while delivering the highest antimicrobial activity, reducing E. coli by 20.28% and S. aureus by 28.33%.
