Hot Extrusion Process Grain Size Prediction and Effects of Friction Models and Hydraulic Press Applications

open access: yesMetals
This study focuses on realistic modeling of forming load and microstructural evolution during hot metal extrusion, emphasizing the effects of friction models and hydraulic press behavior. Rather than merely predicting load magnitudes, the objective is to

Bimetallic (NiFe) and Trimetallic (NiFeCr) Nanoalloys from Metal Oxides Using a Microwave Hydrogen Plasma

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Bimetallic (NiFe) and trimetallic (NiFeCr) nanoalloys (NAs) are synthesized using corresponding oxide mixtures using microwave hydrogen plasma within a few milliseconds. The process simultaneously 1) reduces metal oxides to metals; 2) downsizes the particles from micrometers to nanometers; and 3) blends the metals to form NAs.

Flow characteristics of aluminum coated boron steel in hot press forming

open access: yesTransactions of Nonferrous Metals Society of China, 2009
Abstract The flow characteristics of aluminum coated boron steel in hot press forming were investigated. Furthermore, the effects of aluminum coated layer on press forming were analyzed during deep drawing. The results show that aluminum coated boron steel exhibits a high sensitivity on temperature and strain rate.

Influence of Sample Preparation and Processing Procedures on the Thermal Diffusivity of MgO‐C Refractories

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The thermal diffusivity of MgO‐C refractories is highly sensitive to sample preparation and processing procedures. In this article, the effects of coking sequence, machining conditions, structural inhomogeneity, and graphite coating application on measurements using laser flash apparatus are systematically investigated.

Four‐Point Bending Tests at High Temperatures on Commercial MgO‐C Refractory Bricks with and Without Recyclate Considering Different Carbon Contents

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Four‐point bending tests are conducted in an argon atmosphere on commercial MgO‐C brick grades with and without MgO‐C recyclate from room temperature up to 1300 °C. No detrimental effect of the MgO‐C recyclates on bending strength is found. Instead, a decisive influence of the total carbon content is observed, with lower total carbon contents ...

Hot Press Forming of Tailor Welded Blank: Experiments and FE Modeling

open access: yesISIJ International, 2012
Hot Press Forming (HPF) of Tailor Welded Blank (TWB) was investigated with particular focus on the formability and phase transformation of the constituent base materials. Dilatometric analyses were conducted to study strength differentials for various cooling rates after heat treatment. U-draw bending tests were performed to evaluate the influence of a

Comparison of Ceramic Waste forms Produced by hot Uniaxial Pressing and by Cold Pressing and Sintering [PDF]

open access: yesMRS Proceedings, 1994
AbstractSynroc C waste form specimens prepared using the Australian-developed technology are uniaxially pressed in stainless steel bellows at 1200°C and 20MPa. This produces a material with high chemical and physical durability and with the radioactivity enclosed inside both the waste form and the bellows. An alternative method of producing the ceramic

Population of Nonmetallic Inclusions in Liquid High‐Silicon Electrical Steel in Contact With MgO–C Refractories Based on Recyclates and Environmentally Friendly Binders

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
The formation of nonmetallic inclusions (NMIs) was investigated in this study, carrying out immersion tests for 30 min at a temperature of 1600°C with liquid high‐silicon electrical steel (Si ≈ 3 mass‐%) and different MgO–C refractories. Conventional MgO–C refractories were considered, as well as MgO–C refractories containing MgO–C recyclate and ...
