INFLUENCE OF CHEMICAL COMPOSITION ON THE HOT TEARING SUSCEPTIBILITY OF WROUGHT 6005 ALUMINUM ALLOYS

open access: yesMETAL Conference Proeedings
Hot tearing is one of the most critical casting defects that affect the castability of an alloy and the final integrity of a component. Despite being extensively studied over the past 70 years, multiple theories persist regarding the mechanism that ...

Hot tearing behavior and mechanism of AXJ530 alloy under rotating magnetic field

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
In order to solve the issues concerning high hot tearing susceptibility (HTS) of Mg-Al-Ca series alloys, a rotating magnetic field (RMF) was applied during their solidification.

Effect of Sc on stress-strain and hot tearing susceptibility of Al-Cu intercrystalline liquid film

open access: yesChina Foundry
Al-Cu alloys exhibit promising industrial applications owing to their low density and superior mechanical properties. However, their widespread adoption is severely limited by high hot tearing susceptibility.

HOT TEARING SUSCEPTIBILITY IN DC CAST ALUMINUM ALLOYS

open access: yes, 2012
Hot tearing and loss of dimensional stability are two key defects related to industrial aluminum alloy casting processes. In order to investigate their occurrence, a new semi-solid constitutive law [20] for AA5182 that takes into account cooling rate, grain size and porosity has been implemented into a Direct Chill casting process model for round ...

Experimental and numerical analysis of the hot tearing susceptibility of a CuCrZr alloy

open access: yes, 2010
The precipitation hardened CuCrZr alloy is used in fusion machines for the heat sink of intensely cooled plasma facing components (PFC) due to its good thermal and mechanical properties. Albeit, the feedback from its application in Tore Supra (French tokamak) showed that this alloy is very sensitive to hot tearing during electron beam welding.
