A Deep Recurrent Learning-Based Region-Focused Feature Detection for Enhanced Target Detection in Multi-Object Media

open access: yesSensors, 2023
Target detection in high-contrast, multi-object images and movies is challenging. This difficulty results from different areas and objects/people having varying pixel distributions, contrast, and intensity properties.

The radio source B 1834+620: A double-double radio galaxy with interesting properties [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
We present a study of the peculiar radio galaxy B 1834+620. It is characterised by the presence of a 420-kpc large edge-brightened radio source which is situated within, and well aligned with, a larger (1.66 Mpc) radio source.

The Discovery of Extended Thermal X-ray Emission from PKS 2152-699: Evidence for a `Jet-cloud' Interaction

open access: yes, 2004
A Chandra ACIS-S observation of PKS 2152-699 reveals thermal emission from a diffuse region around the core and a hotspot located 10" northeast from the core.

UV Imaging Polarimetry of the peculiar Seyfert 2 galaxy Mrk 477 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We present the results of UV imaging polarimetry of the Seyfert 2 galaxy Mrk 477 taken by the Faint Object Camera onboard the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). From a previous HST UV image (lambda ~ 2180A), Mrk 477 has been known to have a pointlike bright

Brazilian Mangroves: Blue Carbon Hotspots of National and Global Relevance to Natural Climate Solutions

open access: yesFrontiers in Forests and Global Change, 2022
Mangroves are known for large carbon stocks and high sequestration rates in biomass and soils, making these intertidal wetlands a cost-effective strategy for some nations to compensate for a portion of their carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

Hotspot advance speed - hotspot size/core-hotspot distance relation

open access: yesRwanda Journal, 2016
We examined the evolution of extragalactic radio sources using the observed corehotspot distance and hotspot size. Analysis indicates a fairly strong positive correlation in the ratio of core-hotspot distance to hotspot size between that of the approaching arm and the receding arm with a correlation coefficient of r ~ 0.7.

Spatio-Temporal Sentiment Hotspot Detection Using Geotagged Photos

open access: yes, 2016
We perform spatio-temporal analysis of public sentiment using geotagged photo collections. We develop a deep learning-based classifier that predicts the emotion conveyed by an image. This allows us to associate sentiment with place.

Hotspot Advance Speed - Hotspot Size/Core-Hotspot Length Relation

open access: yesInternational Letters of Chemistry, Physics and Astronomy, 2015
We examined the evolution of extragalactic radio sources using the observed core-hotspot length and hotspot size. Analysis indicates a fairly strong positive correlation in the ratio of core-hotspot length to hotspot size between that of the approaching arm and the receding arm with a correlation coefficient of r ~ 0.7.

The newfound relationship between extrachromosomal DNAs and excised signal circles

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Extrachromosomal DNAs (ecDNAs) contribute to the progression of many human cancers. In addition, circular DNA by‐products of V(D)J recombination, excised signal circles (ESCs), have roles in cancer progression but have largely been overlooked. In this Review, we explore the roles of ecDNAs and ESCs in cancer development, and highlight why these ...
