House dust mite allergy – Management

open access: yesIndian Journal of Allergy Asthma and Immunology
Allergen vulnerability is highly individual specific. House dust mites (HDMs) are major sources of airborne allergens, found not only in houses but also detected in workplaces and most schools.

Divergent Paths: A Comprehensive Review of Mechanisms and Clinical Implications in Atopic Dermatitis and Psoriasis

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Atopic dermatitis and psoriasis are two common cutaneous chronic inflammatory diseases. Although they share similar immunological mechanisms, their clinical implications in the patient are different. This review compares both diseases from different points of view such as genetics, natural history, triggers of disease, and skin barrier defects

Seasonal variation of IgG subclass antibodies to house dust mite in sera from mite-sensitive asthmatic patients.

open access: yes, 1998
BACKGROUND: House dust mite is an important cause of bronchial asthma. Seasonal variation of environmental house dust mite allergen levels and the specific IgE antibody to house dust mite have been reported.

MAIT Cells Suppress IgE‐Mediated Asthma via IFNγ‐Dependent B Cell Regulation

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
In this study, we demonstrate that MAIT cell antagonism during sensitization and challenge with HDM worsens the development of airway hyperreactivity without effects on type 2 or 17 associated cytokine production or lung inflammation. Rather, MAIT cells appear to regulate HDM‐induced asthma through direct inhibition of IgE production.

Expressed sequence tag survey of gene expression in the scab mite Psoroptes ovis--allergens, proteases and free-radical scavengers

open access: yes, 2003
Psoroptes ovis, the causative agent of sheep scab, is an important ectoparasitic mite infecting sheep, goats and cattle. Infection is characterized by an extensive dermatitis, scab formation and intense itching.

Preventive Application of House Dust Mite‐Sublingual Immunotherapy Induces Blocking Antibodies in Sensitized Preschool Children

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
HDM‐pSLIT induced IgG, IgG1, and IgG4 specific to major HDM allergens in sensitized non‐allergic preschool children without increasing HDM‐sIgE. It blunted the development of new sensitizations and reduced HDM reactivity in skin and basophils. HDM‐pSLIT treated children displayed a blocking effect on HDM‐induced basophil activation.

Effects of BCG Vaccination Prior to Specific Immunotherapy on IL-4/IFN-γ Ratio and AR Total Symptom Score in Persistent Allergic Rhinitis (Efek vaksinasi BCG pre imunoterapi spesifik terhadap rasio IL-4/IFN-γ dan skor gejala total rinitis pada rinitis alergi persisten) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Background: Allergic disease including allergic rhinitis (AR) is dominated by Th2 responses with increased production of IL-4 and inhibition of IFN-ï§ production. BCG vaccination induced IL-12 production which promotes Th0 to Th1 shift and stimulates IFN-

Natural History of Alternaria Sensitisation and Association With Asthma and Rhinitis From Childhood to Adulthood

open access: yesAllergy, EarlyView.
We aimed to characterise Alternaria sensitisation trajectories from childhood to adulthood; we compared SPT, whole‐extract sIgE and rAlt a 1, and assessed their longitudinal association with asthma and rhinitis in the Isle of Wight birth cohort. Alternaria sensitisation in the Isle of Wight Birth Cohort emerges mainly in late adolescence and, when ...
