Households' Portfolio Diversification [PDF]
This paper performs an efficiency analysis of households portfolios based on the comparison of observed portfolios with the mean-variance frontier of assets returns. Data on household portfolios are drawn from a representative sample of the Italian population with at least a bank account.

I propose a life‐cycle model where a finitely lived risk‐averse household finances its housing investment by opting to provide a down payment. Given that the household may default, risk‐neutral lenders efficiently charge a default premium to hedge against expected losses. This has two major consequences.
