Effect of HPMC concentration on β-cyclodextrin solubilization of norfloxacin

Carbohydrate Polymers, 2014
The effect of hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) concentration on β-cyclodextrin (β-CD) solubilization of norfloxacin was examined. The solubility and dissolution of norfloxacin/β-CD and norfloxacin/β-CD/HPMC inclusion complexes were studied. The presence of β-CD increased significantly the solubility and dissolution of norfloxacin.

Using HPMC to improve crust crispness in microwave-reheated battered mackerel nuggets: Water barrier effect of HPMC

Food Hydrocolloids, 2008
Mackerel nuggets used in this study were coated with HPMC prior to battering or coated with batter containing HPMC in order to improve crust crispness through the formation of a thermal gel barrier preventing the diffusion of water from meat into the crust during microwave reheating.

Methylcellulose (MC) and Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC)

2022
Methylcellulose was one of the earliest synthetic substitutes for natural gums in food applications. In addition to use in the food industry, both methylcellulose and hydroxypropylmethylcellulose find broad application in a variety of industrial and pharmaceutical uses, including the construction, coatings, chemical, cosmetics, and textile industries ...

HPMC- A Marvel Polymer for Pharmaceutical Industry-Patent Review

Recent Advances in Drug Delivery and Formulation, 2021
At the present time, designing of defined release dosage forms, either controlled, sustained, modified, are gaining much importance. For the development of such delivery systems, proper blend of polymers is required so that drug release occurs by polymer erosion, swelling, diffusion/ dissolution.

Effects of hydroxymethylpropylcellulose (HPMC) moisture content on hydrochlorothiazide release from HPMC-based tablets

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 1996
Abstract The effects of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC) moisture content on the properties of tablets made with HPMC as base excipient were investigated. Two varieties of HPMC, with nominal viscosities of 4000 and 100 000 cP, were evaluated. The drug model used was hydrochlorothiazide, present in tablets at 1% w/w.

Sodium Lauryl Sulfate Competitively Interacts with HPMC-AS and Consequently Reduces Oral Bioavailability of Posaconazole/HPMC-AS Amorphous Solid Dispersion

Molecular Pharmaceutics, 2016
Sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), as an effective surfactant, is often used as a solubilizer and/or wetting agent in various dosage forms for the purpose of improving the solubility and dissolution of lipophilic, poorly water-soluble drugs. This study aims to understand the impact of SLS on the solution behavior and bioavailability of hypromellose acetate ...

Designing HPMC matrices with improved resistance to dissolved sugar

International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2010
High concentrations of dissolved sugars can accelerate in vitro drug release in certain hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) matrices (Williams et al., 2009). This study investigated the potential for common formulation variables to modulate sucrose sensitivity, and explored if more resistant formulations could be designed. In a model matrix containing

Comparison of vitreous replacement with Healon and with HPMC in rabbits' eyes

Documenta Ophthalmologica, 1986
Ten rabbits underwent vitreous aspiration and replacement by either Healon or Hydroxy Propyl Methyl Cellulose 2%. Four weeks' observation did not reveal noticeable differences between Healon and HPMC with regard to anterior chamber reaction, intra-ocular pressure or cataract.

Influence of ionic strength and HPMC viscosity grade on drug release and swelling behavior of HPMC matrix tablets

Journal of Applied Polymer Science, 2016
ABSTRACTMatrix tablets containing paracetamol and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC 2906) of different viscosity grades (50, 400, 1500, and 4000 mPa·s) were evaluated for drug release and change in matrix tablet mass [ΔM (%)] after exposure to 0.09, 0.15, 0.31, and 0.52M ionic strengths of dissolution media.

Isotonic Riboflavin and HPMC With Accelerated Cross-Linking Protocol

Cornea, 2014
The aim of this study was to monitor corneal pachymetry changes during accelerated collagen cross-linking (CXL) for keratoconus while using isotonic riboflavin with HPMC.All consecutive patients who underwent CXL for progressive keratoconus, using accelerated protocol and isotonic riboflavin with HPMC, from December 2012 to September 2013 were included
