Liquisolid compacts: The effect of cosolvent and HPMC on theophylline release
Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces, 2010Liquisolid technique as an approach was developed to sustain the drug release from matrix compacts. Liquisolid tablets were prepared by mixing liquid medication with silica-Eudragit RL or RS followed by the compaction of the mixture. For comparison purposes physical mixtures of all ingredients were prepared.

The aim of this study was to compare carbamazepine (CBZ) solid dispersions prepared by spray-drying of aqueous dispersions with the corresponding physical mixtures. The influence of the association of beta-cyclodextrin (betaCD) and hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) on the CBZ dissolution profile of the preparations was investigated.

Mechanisms of drug release in citrate buffered HPMC matrices
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2009Few studies report the effects of alkalizing buffers in HPMC matrices. These agents are incorporated to provide micro-environmental buffering, protection of acid-labile ingredients, or pH-independent release of weak acid drugs. In this study, the influence of sodium citrate on the release kinetics, gel layer formation, internal gel pH and drug release ...

Preparation and characterization of curcumin solid dispersion using HPMC
Journal of Food Science, 2020Abstract Curcumin solid dispersions were prepared using hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) to enhance water solubility of curcumin. The particle size of curcumin solid dispersions was in range from 371 to 528 nm and particles were shaped as spherical with wrinkles. The encapsulation efficiency was over 93% for

Quantitative Ultra-Fast MRI of HPMC Swelling and Dissolution
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2010For the first time quantitative Rapid Acquisition with Relaxation Enhancement (RARE) based ultra-fast two-dimensional magnetic resonance imaging has been used to follow the dissolution of hydroxypropylmethyl cellulose (HPMC) in water. Quantitative maps of absolute water concentration, spin-spin relaxation times and water self-diffusion coefficient are ...

Predicting drug release from HPMC/lactose tablets
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2013Three mathematical models were applied to quantify drug release from HPMC/lactose-based matrix tablets loaded with varying amounts of theophylline: (i) a numerical model considering drug diffusion in axial and radial direction in cylinders as well as limited drug solubility effects, (ii) an analytical solution of Fick's second law of diffusion ...

Behaviour of HPMC compacts investigated using UV-imaging
International Journal of Pharmaceutics, 2012The aim of the study was to visualize the behaviour of the hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) in a buffer solution using UV imaging. The obtained results were related to rheological measurements in order to gain insight into critical polymer properties affecting drug release. Two viscosity grades of HPMC, 15cP and 50 cP, were used.

On the Behavior of HPMC/Theophylline Matrices for Controlled Drug Delivery
Journal of Pharmaceutical Sciences, 2009Design of systems for oral controlled release of drug could take advantages from the knowledge of which phenomena take place. In this work matrices obtained by powders compression (50:50, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose, a swelling hydrogel, and theophylline, a model drug) were immersed in water at 37 degrees C, allowing the water uptake and the drug ...

The aim of the present study was to investigate the effect of hydroxypropylmethylcellulose (HPMC-2208), used as an excipient for controlled release of drug, on the release profiles and bioavailability of the poorly water-soluble nifedipine (NP) from a tablet prepared using macrogol 6000 (PEG) and HPMC.

Recovery of Cellulase by HPMC-Salt Precipitation
1999Production of industrial enzymes including cellulases requires minimum cost with the down stream processing. The objective of this work was toanalyze the precipitation of cellulases by ammonium sulfate in the presence of hydroxypropyl(methylcellulose) as a co-precipitant through the use of statistical experimental design.
