Heart Rate Variability (HRV)

open access: yesJournal of Clinical & Experimental Cardiology, 2018
Heart rate is mainly determined by pacemaker current generated in the SA node. It, in turn, is regulated by autonomic nervous system. Sympathetic stimulation enhances chronotropic, ionotropic and dromotropic activity via α and β receptor activation whereas, parasympathetic stimulation causes reverse effect on heart via the M2 receptors.

Bovine κ-casein inhibits human rotavirus (HRV) infection via direct binding of glycans to HRV [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Dairy Science, 2014
Human rotavirus (HRV) is a major etiologic agent of severe infantile gastroenteritis. κ-Casein (κ-CN) from both human and bovine mature milk has been reported to have anti-HRV activity; however, the mechanism of this activity is poorly understood. The present study examined the molecular basis for the protective effect of bovine κ-CN derived from late ...

Honour-related violence (HRV) in Scotland: A cross- and multi-agency intervention involvement survey [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper documents the results of a small-scale pilot study, which represents the first step towards further research in this overlooked area of violence against women and represents a first step towards responding to widespread calls for multi ...

First Evaluation of an Index of Low Vagally-Mediated Heart Rate Variability as a Marker of Health Risks in Human Adults: Proof of Concept. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Multiple studies have demonstrated low vagally-mediated heart rate variability (HRV) being associated with a range of risk factors for heart disease and stroke, including inflammation, hyperglycemia, hyperlipidemia, and hypertension.

Health‐related quality of life in youth with chronic gastrointestinal disease following a biofeedback enhanced cognitive behavioral therapy intervention: A randomized controlled trial

open access: yesJournal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, EarlyView.
Abstract Objectives Pediatric patients with chronic gastrointestinal (GI) conditions including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) on average endorse lower health related quality of life (HRQOL) than their healthy counterparts.

Genome-wide association study of electrocardiographic and heart rate variability traits: the Framingham Heart Study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
BACKGROUND: Heritable electrocardiographic (ECG) and heart rate variability (HRV) measures, reflecting pacemaking, conduction, repolarization and autonomic function in the heart have been associated with risks for cardiac arrhythmias.

Acute Effects of Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation on Autonomic Nervous System Activity in Healthy Volunteers: An Exploratory Study

open access: yesNeurourology and Urodynamics, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Aim Autonomic nervous system (ANS) imbalance may contribute to functional pelvic disorders such as overactive bladder (OAB). Transcutaneous tibial nerve stimulation (TTNS) is a non‐invasive therapy for OAB; however, its autonomic modulation mechanisms remain unclear. This exploratory study evaluated the acute effects of TTNS on ANS activity in

Non-Invasive Device for Blood Pressure Wave Acquisition by Means of Mechanical Transducer

open access: yesSensors, 2019
Blood pressure wave monitoring provides interesting information about the patient’s cardiovascular function. For this reason, this article proposes a non-invasive device capable of capturing the vibrations (pressure waves) produced by the carotid artery ...

Mediterranean Versus Western Diet Effects on Obesity Phenotypes and Adipose Tissue Transcriptional Profiles in Female Monkeys

open access: yesObesity, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Objective Obesity, or excessive body fat, is a significant health risk factor. Western diets (WD) contribute to metabolic dysfunction and obesity, while Mediterranean diets (MD) improve metabolic health. This study examined the contrasting effects of WD versus MD on visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissues (VAT, SAT) using a randomized ...
