Determining the Effect of Grain Size on the Microstructure and Oxidation of Nuclear Graphite

open access: yesCarbon Energy, Volume 8, Issue 1, January 2026.
Superfine‐grained graphite is developed, showing oxidation resistance comparable to that of medium‐grained graphite. The study reveals that two intrinsic parameters govern its performance: reactive site concentration dictates chemical kinetics, whereas pore tortuosity controls oxidant diffusion.

Personnel Radiation Exposure in HTGR Plants [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
Occupational radiation exposures in high-temperature gas-cooled reactor (HTGR) plants were assessed. The expected rate of dose accumulations for a large HTGR steam cycle (HTGR-SC) unit is 0.07 man-rem/MW(e)y, while the design basis is 0.17 man-rem/MW(e)y.
