Thermal spray coatings for molten salt facing structural parts and enabling opportunities for thermochemical cycle electrolysis

open access: yesEngineering Reports, Volume 6, Issue 9, September 2024.
The review is in relation to coating materials that can withstand thermochemical cycle corrosive environments. The overall assessment is that very limited sets of coating‐substrate system are likely to survive for an extended period in the high temperature thermochemical environment. Recommended solution is to use special metals coated with metallic or

Modelling and analysis of nuclear reactor system coupled with a liquid metal battery

open access: yesThe Journal of Engineering, Volume 2024, Issue 5, May 2024.
Abstract Traditionally, nuclear power plants in the U.S. provide baseload power to the power grid because they have less flexibility for ramping their output power than natural gas peaking plants. However, achieving climate goals to reduce the consumption of fossil‐based natural gas places pressure on nuclear power plants and other power generators to

Performance analysis of ground‐based long baseline radar distributed systems for space situational awareness

open access: yesIET Radar, Sonar &Navigation, Volume 18, Issue 4, Page 586-597, April 2024.
Detection of space objects is a key component of space situational awareness, which could help prevent and minimise space collisions. The authors focus on the feasibility of long baseline multistatic radars; and the performance of the system for a target at different altitudes and receiver configurations.

A Concept of Online Refueling TRISO‐Fueled and Salt‐Cooled Reactor

open access: yesInternational Journal of Energy Research, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
This paper introduces a novel concept of a TRISO‐fueled salt‐cooled reactor (TFSCR). The core contains circulating pipes filled with molten salt carrying TRISO particles. The reactor achieves online refueling by slowly circulating the molten salt through the pipeline.

Effects of the HTGR-gas turbine on national reactor strategies [PDF]

open access: yes, 1979
A specific role for the HTGR in a national energy strategy is examined. The issue is addressed in two ways. First, the role of the HTGR-GT Binary cycle plant is examined in a national energy strategy based on symbiosis between fast breeder and advanced ...

Waste management considerations in HTGR recycle operations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1975
Waste management considerations in the recycle of HTGR fuel are different from those encountered in the recycle of LWR fuel. The types of waste associated with HTGR recycle operations are discussed, and treatment methods for some of the wastes are ...
