HTLV-II and Bacterial Infections Among Injection Drug Users
JAIDS Journal of Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndromes, 2000To examine whether select bacterial infections are associated with HTLV-II infection among injection drug users, we conducted a nested case control study within an ongoing cohort study.HTLV-II status was determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, immunofluorescent assay, and immunoblot.

Other Human Retrovirus Infections: HTLV-I and HTLV-II
1992The first human retrovirus described, human T-lymphotropic virus type 1 (HTLV-I), is considered the cause of adult T-cell leukemia/lymphoma.1 More recently, the virus has been etiologically associated with tropical spastic paraparesis (TSP).2 This chronic neurodegenerative disorder is clinicopathologically identical to HTLV-I-associated myelopathy (HAM)

HTLV-II Infection in Florida Indians
AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, 1993A significantly increased prevalence of antibodies to human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV) has been described in several native American populations in the United States and Latin America. Initial virologic studies indicate that HTLV-II is the predominant virus responsible for this antibody pattern.

Spontaneous lymphocyte proliferation in HTLV-II infection
The Lancet, 1991We measured lymphocyte proliferation in the absence of antigenic stimulation in 45 HTLV-II infected, 9 HTLV-I infected, and 19 HTLV-I seronegative intravenous drug users (IVDU). Lymphocyte proliferation was higher in IVDUs infected with HTLV-II than in seronegative IVDUs but lower than among those infected with HTLV-I.

Chronic neurodegenerative disease associated with HTLV-II infection
The Lancet, 1992Although human T-cell leukemia virus (HTLV) type I is known to cause a number of diseases, there has been no convincing evidence of pathological changes after infection with the related virus, HTLV-II. We have found an endemic focus of HTLV-II infection among members of an American Indian population in New Mexico, USA.

Rabbit immune sera raised against synthetic peptides of the HTLV-II envelope gp46 region were examined for HTLV-II neutralization ability by HTLV-vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV) pseudotype assay and syncytium inhibition assay. HTLV-II neutralization activity was detected in the sera against HTLV-II Env gp46, 80-103 but not in those to HTLV-II Env gp46,
